To say your stomach hurt from laughing so hard would be a complete and utter understatement. You had never laughed this hard in your life and you had only one person to thank for that: Chris. The two of you had been talking and laughing all night, never an awkward pause and the drinks kept coming. It felt as if a weight had been lifted off your shoulder and all the stress from Kendra had released from your body.
It had been nice spending the last few weeks on the set; not necessarily because of Kendra, but because of Chris. You were starting to fall for him, as much as you hated to think about it. Chris always had a way with his words; making you laugh and giggle without a second thought. And that smirk, fuck that smirk of his melted your heart and made your lady bits tingle with such desire you had never felt before. All in all, you felt guilty for feeling this way about your best friends' boyfriend. Yet at the same time, you had also seen the way Kendra treated Chris.
Over the course of the last few weeks you saw that Kendra was not the same best friend you had known all your life. No, she was nowhere near the loving, kind, tender hearted person you had grown to call your best friend. Instead, she had a diva attitude and demanded everyone's attention at all times. You knew you should be grateful for everything she had done for you, but it all felt in vain. Deep down, you knew Kendra was only doing it to show off how 'good' of a person she could be.
It felt like you were back in high school again. The ugly duckling as you sat back and watched Kendra take all the glory; yet back in high school, she was actually a decent person and not some diva bitch. Back then, you had sat back and let Kendra take the wheel, never going after what you wanted. But now, as Chris began to talk about his beloved girlfriend, you couldn't keep quiet. You had spent far too many years going with the flow, not following your dreams, and keeping quiet. But enough was enough.
"Why are you with her Chris?" your words came flowing out of your mouth like word vomit. Your heart ached at the obvious hurt that came across the face of the man you were falling for; the man who made your heart flutter from just a look at you; the man who made your knees weak from just the sound of his voice.
Those ocean blue eyes of his were staring back at you, his face rather apathetic. His large hands went to cup his beer glass, taking a long sip as his eyes never let go of yours; your heart racing with forethought as to what he would say. Chris was taking rather long with his words and you decided to apologize.
"Chris I'm sorry, that was uncalled for," you meekly said, your voice a near hushed whisper. You know he was trying to be sneaky, but you definitely caught the way his eyes glanced down to your lips for a mere second before connecting with your eyes again; your face warming with heat.
"Was it?" Chris asked with a sorrowful smirk. "Was your question really uncalled for Y/N?" You were torn as to how to approach his own reproach to your question. Clearing your throat you took a sip of your drink, not feeling nearly as drunk anymore for this conversation.
Your mind was racking with thoughts left and right on how to approach him before you finally spoke. "Yeah, it's really none of my business Chris. I've just had a bit too much to drink. I should have never asked you something that personal. Again, I'm sorry."
A smirk, this time playful appeared on his glorious kissable lips; your stomach tightening at the thought of those lips trailing across every inch of your naked body. Chris reached out, placing his hand gently on yours. It was cliché, you knew it but it felt as if a volt of lightning went shooting throughout your body at his touch and you had to hold back a small whimper.
You wanted him, and you wanted him bad. Never in your life had you come in first place; it was always Kendra. Everyone noticed her while you were just the best friend living in the shadows. Now, your brain was telling you to take control, take what you wanted. "Chris," you quietly whispered through your lips; your heart pounding in your chest.
"Is there anything else I can get you two? Another drink?" the bartender asked, causing Chris to pull his hand from yours. You shrunk back into your chair, feeling both annoyed and disappointed.
Chris turned to you, quirking an eyebrow but you gave him a smile, shaking your head to let him know that you didn't need anything more.
"Just the check, thank you," Chris said with his own smile as he turned back to you. You went to grab your wallet, fully intending to pay for your own meal and drinks before he spoke up. "I hope you know that I'm paying."
Your brows furrowed, cocking your head to the side. "It's alright Chris. I can pay for my half."
Before you knew it, he pulled his check card out of his wallet and gave it to the bartender. "Too slow," he retorted with a grin and you couldn't help but shake your head at his playfulness. With him paying, it felt like a date, but you knew it wasn't. After all, he was dating Kendra and your heart sank once again at the thought.
After the bill was paid, the two of you headed out the back of the bar and walked back to the hotel. Even though nothing was said for the first block, it still wasn't awkward. Chris' arm would brush up against yours every once and awhile and you relished in the feel of him.
"What were you going to say back there?" he asked softly.
Turning your head to face him, you replied, "What do you mean?"
You could see the hint of blush creeping onto his cheeks as the two of you continued walking. "You ah, you said my name rather quietly and it kind of seemed like you wanted to add on to that."
Crap. He found you out. You did want to say more. You wanted to ask him if he wanted to come back to your hotel room, but you knew that would be asking too much. In all honesty, you had a feeling you were reading deeper into this than it truly was supposed to be.
"Oh, that," you chuckled nervously, trying to hide your feelings. "It was nothing. Like I said, too much to drink." And of all moments, it was that moment that you stumbled over your feet and into Chris.
Luckily, he had rather quick reflexes and before you knew it, his strong arms were encasing your body. "Are you alright?" he asked, his face so close to yours that you felt his warm breath fanning your face.
Your mind couldn't comprehend any words and all you managed was a nod. It seemed as if that was all he needed before a smile spread across his lips. His head tilted just a fraction as his lips gracefully placed a tender kiss to your cheek. "Good. I don't want you getting hurt."
The rest of the way to your hotel you kept fidgeting with your hands; the place where Chris had kissed you on your cheek burning as you wanted him to keep touching your body, touching your flesh. Your mind was racing with questions as to why Chris decided to give you a kiss on the cheek, and wondering why he was so adamant about you not getting hurt. The two of you were just friends....right?
As the two of you reached the front door of your hotel, Chris spoke up. "Do you want me to walk to you to hotel room?"
'Yes' you mentally thought to yourself, wanting nothing more than to spend a few extra minutes with him. "No," you blurted out on instinct. "It's fine. I'll...I'll see you later Chris. Thanks for tonight. I had a great time." You quickly wrapped your arms around him for a quick hug before bolting into your hotel.
As you got in the elevator, you were thanking the stars above that you and Chris didn't share the same hotel. Tonight had definitely taken a turn; going nowhere near what you had expected. First, Chris asked you out for drinks and food. Second, he paid for your drinks. Third, when you were about to face plant onto the pavement, he caught you and then gave you a kiss on your cheek.
Mentally you scolded yourself. He's dating your best friend for goodnesssake. Even though you were fallinghopelessly head over heels for him, Chris Evans couldn't possibly be returningthose feelings for you. Could he?
