Chapter one
I tripped.
Over air.
Great.
My binder fell to the floor, my papers were scattered everywhere, and all eyes were on me. Why was I carrying so many papers? It was only the first day of school.
So much for trying not to attract attention. Way to go Sash.
The whole hallway was still staring at me, as if waiting for my next move, which reminded me that I was still on the floor.
While recollecting my stuff, I caught glimpse of four pairs of eyes.
It was so weird, how everything was happening in slow motion. The students around me, all disappeared, and i was left alone, with these eyes, in a world of our own.
I only recognized three of them though.
The eyes that I couldn't really connect to any person i knew, belonged to a petite girl, with light brown hair, and a timid, shy expression on her face. We made eye contact, and she smiled at me. Still, I really didn't recognize her. Maybe she was new. Maybe, I just hadn't noticed her before.
Her smile faltered and she looked confused as to why I was still looking at her. Oh believe me, I didn't know either.
My gaze moved to another pair of eyes now.
James Black.
Walking down the hallway with his friends as if they owned the school. Black skinny jeans, black leather jacket and jet black hair. I guess no one ever told him that other colors existed in this world. Now that I think of it, his last name was Black after all. Tattoos covered his toned arms, and piercings invaded half his face.
He transferred school two years ago, and he was already everyone's new interest. Girls wanted to date him and guys wanted to be him. I guess you could say he had this bad boy kind of vibe.
I've never had anything to do with him. And I wasn't planning to be associated with him, in any way, anytime in the future.
Daniel Edwards.
The kid always hid behind his big glasses. Holding his books to his chest as tightly as possible, I felt as if he was afraid, most of the time. His shoulders were always tense and his eyes roamed everywhere, possibly looking out for himself.
I couldn't blame him though. If I were the target of the whole school, I would do the same. Everyone picked on him and took advantage of him. I thought it was unfair, but I never had the courage to go up and stick up for him.
I was once his lab partner, but other than that, I knew close to nothing about him.
I didn't recognize this next one immediately. Although, after someone yelled, "Jason, dude! Wait up!", my mind realized who it was.
Jason Walker.
The star football player of the school. He was laughing and joking along with his twin brother, as the whole football team was following close behind.
The reason I didn't recognize him, was that, he has changed a whole lot since I last saw him. He now has an ear piercing and a new haircut. And by the way he was talking, his appearance wasn't the only thing that changed.
He's Elena's - my best friend - ex-boyfriend, we often hung out - because of Elena. But nothing more than that.
And in a split second, everything came back to life. The four pairs of eyes disappeared in the crowd, everyone went back to what they were doing, and I was utterly confused.
I got up, brushed the dust off my newly bought jeans, and went to join my own friends, Elena and Melanie, who were waiting for me at my locker, laughing at my own misfortune.
"Very funny guys." I rolled my eyes at them.
"Aw, come on Sash, we missed you!" Elena said before she engulfed me in the most suffocating hug.
"Mel! Join in!" She added.
"Yeah, no, I don't do hugs." Melanie stated.
But Elena was not having it, so she pulled her in too.
The bell rung, signaling the beginning of the first period. We walked Melanie to her class, since Elena and I had English together.
We stepped into the half-empty classroom and sat in the back. I settled myself in my seat, and put my head against the table, rewatching the events that happened barely ten minutes ago. And the four pairs of eyes haunted my mind each time I closed my own.
