Chapter four

I don't know what I was expecting to see, once I stepped out of my car, but I was definitely surprised at the sight in front of me.

A very confused and lonely Jason stood there scratching his neck in embarrassment.

"I- um I was...hi, first of all." He managed to stutter.

"Hey." I said awkwardly, digging my fingernails into the palm of my hand out of instinct.

Relax.

The uncomfortable silence was no doubt there as we faced each other, blankly. Say something you idiot.

"Shut up!"

"Huh?" I looked up to see an even more confused Jason, his eyebrow arched and his mouth agape.

My eyes widened at the realization. Stupid stupid stupid.

He took my silence as his queue to talk, "Look I kinda have a situation going on..." He wouldn't even look me in the eye.

"You lost her, didn't you?" I said accusingly.

All he could do was lower his head in shame and defeat.

If I weren't half-asleep, I would've thought this situation was hilarious. But I was half-asleep, and I missed my comfortable bed.
"Let's just find her and get this over with. You search for her, I'll search for Mel. Let's meet again here once we have them." I felt so proud of myself for not stuttering on this one.

He nodded his head, and we parted ways. Once I turned the other way, I released a sigh of relief. This was going to be a long night.

"So, you're telling me, that Elena is drunk..." Mel asked.

"Yup."

"And you lost her!?" She was about the lose it at this point.

"Don't put this on me Mel, you know damn well you should've kept an eye on her, especially knowing that Jason would be here." I tried to contain my anger, why was I even here, trying to fix someone else's mess? But at the same time, I couldn't let my best friend down, that would go against what I thought was right.

"Um, Sasha? Isn't that..."

Oh no. This was not happening right now.

As I looked up, I saw a very drunk Elena in the middle of an even drunker crowd, holding the microphone to her lips.

I made eye contact with Jason across the room. Signs of worry and frustration clear on his gorgeous face-

I did not just say that. What do you think you're doing checking your best friends ex-man out like that? Get a hold of yourself woman. That nagging voice that never shut up, scolded me. She was right, there was a much more important matter at hand right now.

"I jussst wannted to saaaayyy...umm how fineeee... my man Jason is looking tonniighhttt." She hiccuped in between almost every word.

Jason wasn't having any of it. He almost immediately cut through the crowd of intoxicated teenagers, to get to her. Snatching the microphone from her hand, he grabbed her wrist aggressively and dragged her all the way out of the circle of people and out the door.

"Let's go." I ushered for Melanie to leave the house.

When I got outside, Elena was on the floor pouting. "We never hang out anymore guys...and..and...we..." And just like that, she was out.

I thought she died for a split second.

"Hey, I think I'm gonna get going now, that's enough craziness for tonight." I heard Melanie's voice tell me, before she vanished completely.
