Chapter two"I hope you understand James. I won't tolerate you coming in late next time. Please take your seat." She pointed to an empty chair beside Elena and I. Why us?
Mrs. Watson has been going on about James being late to class, for what seemed like an eternity. And he couldn't be less bothered. All he did was roll his eyes, put his hands in his pockets, move his weight from one leg to another, looking out the window... but she still didn't catch on, she just kept on rambling and shouting.
I was eternally praying for him to ignore us completely. And as he got closer and closer to his assigned seat, my prayers intensified more and more.
I didn't want him to start up a conversation with us. I just knew that it would end up being a complete embarrassment.
What? I wasn't good with socializing. Let alone, with the most popular guy at school.
As he settled in his chair, I thanked the heavens for letting this go smoothly.
He slumped his shoulders looking as bored as ever.
I sighed and turned to Elena. "Hey, I saw Jason in the hallway. He changed a whole lot." I said trying to take my mind off James' annoying whistles.
"Ugh, don't mention his name in my presence. I could care less about him anymore, it's not like we're together anyway." She shrugged carelessly.
Three loud thumps were heard from the front of the class. My eyes darted to the teacher's desk. She was furious. I could swear I saw her ears fuming.
"Silence!" She literally roared at us.
I gulped and widened my eyes, what a beautiful way to start the first day of school.
So she was this kind of teacher then.
"You'll work in groups of three this year. Choose your partners. You have five minutes!" She carried on shouting. Someone was in a bad mood.
Elena and I instantly looked at each other with a nod. One more person.
I looked around the classroom, and every student had already found two partners to work with. Sighing in frustration, I looked to my left.
James had his head on the table. He couldn't be bothered to search for partners.
"Okay!" Mrs. Watson shouted again. "Those who don't have partners, please stand up!"
No no no no. This wasn't happening.
Elena and I stood up hesitantly.
"Black! Since you don't have partners, you'll be working with Sasha and Elena." She turned her back and started writing on the board almost immediately.
I ran my hands across my face. I wanted to pull my hair out. This was so unfair.
Elena on the other hand, seemed to be okay with the whole situation. Was I the only one freaking out right now?
Suddenly I felt a small tap on my left shoulder. I turned around slowly, to see James with a smile plastered to his lips.
"This is going to be fun Sarah." He winked at me, then stared right ahead, and started whistling again.
He got my name wrong, but I was too scared that I didn't even correct him.
This is going to be a long year.

After a very tiring first day of school, I came back home feeling exhausted. I closed the front door with my left foot while dropping my backpack on the floor. The house was filled with silence, I could tell that nobody was home but I kept my hopes high.
