Chapter 33: Unraveled past
Bryce
From the moment I stepped inside the car today, I knew something was not right because of the way everyone was acting towards me. At first I thought that maybe my imagination was playing games with me, but then I got confused when they suddenly started to talk about Hailey and me as if I wasn't there. Then, they mentioned something that caught my attention completely.
"Why couldn't Hailey come today?" Alec asked and everyone shrugged their shoulders
"I don't know but she's not alone at the house because Bryce stayed with her" Cameron said playfully and I was now completely confused
"Bryce didn't stay with her" I said with a confused expression behind my mirrored aviator sunglasses
"What do you mean? He stayed asleep after we left" Cameron said and at that moment I knew what had happened
"No he didn't because he's right here" I said as I took off my sunglasses and everyone seemed speechless while Cameron looked pale right now. Oh no, what did he do?
"What? So your brother was the one that stayed with her?" he asked with his eyes widened in panic now and I nodded slowly
"Cameron, what did you do?" Tyler asked and everyone looked at Cameron now
"I...I...I thought you had stayed with her so I left her a note saying that you had stayed with her" he stammered in his words and by the end of the sentence, I was already feeling uncomfortable. She thinks that I stayed with her when in reality it was my brother.
"What?!" Bethany shouted in the car and Jessica immediately turned around from the passenger seat to look at us
"What's the problem?" she asked with a worried expression and no one answered her. I guess she got the message that no one was going to answer her because she turned around again to look at the road ahead of her
"Why did you do that, Cameron?" she whispered to Cameron and he shrugged his shoulders nervously
"I'm sorry" he mumbled
"Hey, it's fine, I'll just call her that it's Zach that stayed with her instead of me" I said and everyone seemed more relieved now. I called her but it went straight to voicemail because the phone was either turned off or the batteries were dead. I called Zach and it rang for what seemed like forever before it went straight to voicemail as well. I decided to not get too worried about this to at least try to have a good time, but the harder I tried not to think about it, the more worried I got
Zach hadn't called at all throughout the day and by the time we were on our way back to the house, I was feeling very uneasy and nervous. I was worried of Hailey because she thought that I was staying today and I didn't know if she would somewhat mistake him for me. I shuttered with fear at the thought of Hailey mistaking Zach with me because I think that Zach has feelings for her and he wouldn't hesitate of going along with the act of pretending to be me. At first, I would have thought of all of this as getting too worried, but when I got back and I didn't see her or Zach at the house at all, I knew that something was up.
