Camp Check

Chapter 13

       After driving for another 10 minutes we arrived at her house. It was so beautiful, just like her. We got my bags and went inside. We threw the bags down and she pushed me up against the door and started kissing my neck. I push her face up to kiss me and she crashes her lips onto mine. We parted when air became a problem and I rested my forehead on hers, we stayed like that for a good 5 minutes.

       "Baby where's your daughter at?" I asked. I knew she had a 5 year old named Carolyn.  I've seen her in pictures and she's adorable!

       "She's at my moms. I haven't went and got her yet. We should go and get her, I want my mom and her to meet you!" She said that like it was a good thing. I started freaking out. Her daughter I can deal with, I'm good with kids, but her mom!? What if she hates me like my mom hated her. What if she makes Abbey realize that us being together isn't in her best interest. What if she tells her she can't see me anymore, that it's either me or her mom.

      I guess I had zoned out because when I snapped back into reality I was on the ground pulled into Abbey with tears streaming down my face. I pulled away from her and looked her in the eyes.

       "I'm sorry I'm such a mess. I understand if you don't want to be with me, I'm broken." I say looking at my feet. She takes my chin making me look at her.

       "Don't you ever think that I don't want you. I love you so much that it scares me. I have a feeling you started thinking about the what ifs, right?" I nodded. She sighed.

       "I don't care if my mother can't stand being in the same room as you!! I'm never going to let you go. And even if your broken, I'm going to help you put the pieces back together, and if I can't I will still be right by your side. I love you, and don't you ever forget it!" She says. She wraps me in a hug and then gets up. She helps me up and I open the door. She smiles at me and starts walking to her truck and I do the same. We get in her truck and she pulls out of the driveway. She takes her hand off the steering wheel and takes my hand in hers. I love her so much. My whole life is in this truck. That absolutely terrifies me.

      We pull into what I assume is her moms house. She gets out and runs over to my door opening it for me.

      "Such a gentleman." I tease. She just chuckles and shakes her head at me. She takes my hand and we walk into the house. Immediately her daughter ran up to her and jumped into her arms. Carolyn looks from Abbey to me, and then back to Abbey.

      "Mommy, who's this?" She asks tugging on Abbeys sleeve.

      "Carolyn, this is going to be your other mommy, but only if she wants to be and it's ok with you." I never realized this but I wanted to be a mother to this kid. I already seen her as my own. I waited for Carolyns response before saying mine. She just looks up at me and runs into my arms singing about her new mommy. I told her that I would be super excited and happy to be her mommy. I look into Abbeys eyes and she's smiling at me with pure love. Then everything falls apart.

      "ABBEY WHO IS THIS TRAMP HUGGING ON MY GRANDCHILD!!" Her mom says. Carolyn gets behind me, and I get behind Abbey.

      "Mom this is my girlfriend, Jody. I would appreciate it if you didn't call her a tramp. She will be in Carolyns life as much as you. By the way did you take your anger meds." She said. Wait her mom suffers with anger issues as well? That would explain why she snapped the way she did. I walk over to her mother and grab her hands.

      "I understand better now. I have anger issues myself. It gets hard to control what your feeling, especially when you think that someone you love dearly is in trouble. I am very sorry for intruding the way I did. I would like to introduce myself and start fresh if that's ok with you. Hi, my name is Jody. I would like to join this family one day if that's alright with you? I love your daughter very much. I've only known your grandchild for 2 minutes and I already love her like my own." I say looking at Carolyn and Abbey smiling.

       I look back at Abbeys mom and she has tears in her eyes. She removes my hands from hers and wraps her arms around me. I'll take that as a yes.

     "Abbey where did you find her? She's a definite keeper. Of course you can join this family, it would be an amazing experience to have someone who knows how I feel." She says with a smile.  Abbey takes my hand in hers and Carolyn has me pick her up. I place her on my hip and hold her there. Abbeys mom (Rachel) looks at us and has tears starting to form in her eyes. She walks towards Carolyn and takes her from me, she wraps her in a big bear hug. She then gives Carolyn back to me and goes to give Abbey a hug as well. Abbey then takes Carolyn from me so Rachel can give me a hug goodbye.

       "Take care of my babies." Rachel says looking at the two beside me. I smile at them and then look at Rachel.

      "I promise, nothing will happen to them as long as I'm here." I say with confidence. With that we say our final goodbyes and go to the truck. Abbey puts Carolyn in her car seat and gets in. We drive back to her house and order Chinese takeout.
