Chapter 32: what If

It was the end of the day as I just put my gym bag into my locker. Then started walking down the hall about to leave and go home.

As I was walking by the nurses office I seen Maria come out she looked different more dull like plain Jane.
She had on a lose grey T-shirt and black track pants. Her was in a messy bun. She just looked down.

I was curious to see what was wrong.

"Hey is everything ok?"I asked.

I was kinda of concerned ever since the trip to the Ranch everyone says she's been acting different going from social butterfly to a anti social moth.

She took a deep breath.

"I just got a lot going on,"she said as we were walking through the halls.

"You can tell me,"I said reassuring her.

We kept walking until down hall and to the exit doors.

Two other girls walked by and was looking at us but their focus was on Maria was they passed us.

She pulled me off to the side where we stood.

"I'm pregnant,"she told me.

So it is true I heard rumors or should I now call facts that Maria might be pregnant.

"Well congratulations, " I said trying to cheer her up she did a smirk but it was something.

"Are you worried about not graduating."

She shook her head.

"Your afraid Antonio going to leave you?"
I doubted that he's been crazy about her since Jr High.

A teacher came up to us and told we had to exit the building.
so we walked out on the side walk and was just walking beside eachother and went back to talking. I've known Maria since the seventh grade. We aren't best friends or dated eachother she's just got a cool vibe.

"Can I tell you something,"she said to me as we sat on a brown bench in front of the school.

She had a serious yet nervous look on her face.

"What's going on?" I asked as I turned and looked at her.

She looks down at her black shoes.

"Promise you won't tell Monica she said.

Monica doesn't know that Maria's pregnant they're best friends.

"I promise I won't tell hea, I said.

She took a deep breath.

"I think this might be jakes baby."

My face dropped.

"Are you sure?"I asked her.

"I'm two months."

She reminded me of the night Monica first invited Jake and I to her house. While Monica and I were upstairs about to get to business Jake and Maria already got to business.

I looked away and I could feel Maria's eyes on m.

"Promise me you won't tell Monica."

"I already did,"I said.

"Promise me again, " I looked at her and she had a serious face.

I didn't know what to do with this information but I could understand why she wants it to keep this a secret especially from Monica.

"I promise," I said.

Then I seen a blue car pull up I seen Antonio in the drivers seat.

"Well see you later, " she said getting up and walking to his car.

I waved at Antonio he did the sup head nod. After Maria got in he pulled off.

The school parking lot was empty as I walked over to my truck. I couldn't stop thinking about Maria's baby possibly being Jake's.

I understand she don't want Antonio to know. but I think Jake should know because the time frame of her pregnancy.

As I was driving home I also thought about Monica And  how she would feel about the situation if she knew.

But I made a promise to Maria.
