Chapter 15 - It's literally burning downDreaming has definitely been my favourite thing to do, evening and afternoon. It's a great hobby, I think you should try it sometime. The only time when dreaming is inappropriate is probably when you're at a funeral, school, on a roller coaster...
...Or when your house is burning down...
...And that's exactly what mine is doing now, but I'm still asleep...
...I should probably wake up....
"Katie? Katie!" My mum screams and my door bursts open. "Katie, please wake up the house...it's on fire!"
"Mum?" I cough, smoke has obviously found its way into my room. "There's a fire?"
"Katie! We have to go!" She slaps my shoulder to wake me up and I leap out of bed. She pulls me down the stairs, both on our knees and holding our breath.
We get to the front door but we can't find the keys, the hallway filling with more suffocating smoke and the roaring sound of flames getting louder by the minute. We're stuck, until we see the door bang open and (wo)men in fireproof suits come barging into our home. They get me first and I am lifted up off of the floor slightly as my arm is slung around his or hers neck.
The fresh air hits me as my soot covered body is taken outside. My lungs fill with the fresh, night air and I can see flashing lights in front of me. I don't want to be here.
I want to be inside...
I need to be inside, in the comfort of my home.
I feel my bare skin and shock runs through my veins as I realise, that I haven't seen Grayson.
I look around and still cannot see him anywhere, I can only see my Mum and Alicia being checked out by paramedics.
I violently release myself from the firefighters grip, and sprint towards the door of my house. The door breaks off of the hinges and angles itself towards the floor.
I can hear screams of people and footsteps running towards me, trying to get me back to safety, but I stay where I am.
I hesitate, debating whether or not the decision I'm about to make is a good one....
I inhale a large breath...
...and step inside the burning building.
The heat engulfs me and I find it difficult to see around. What I can see, however, is the picture frames burnt and quite a lot of the staircase covered in ash and rubble from the ceiling above.
I make my way to the staircase and cover my head as I hurriedly walk up towards my room. It's the only room with a door still on it."Grayson!" I scream, coughing in pain. "Gray-"
All of a sudden, there's a hand around my mouth and someone pulling at my hand, leading me out to the door.
I fall to the floor, on my knees and watch the roof go up in flames.
My home.
A paramedic comes rushing over and takes me to the safety of her van, doing all the typical procedures to make sure I'm still okay.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" She asks.
"Two." I make out.
"Drink this." She demands, putting a bottle of water next to me and then goes to get some other medical equipment.
