Chapter 14 - A Piece of Cake. The wax stays still, although it's being burnt by the flames.
"Happy Birthday Katie." My mum beams.
"Thanks Mum." I smile. Wow, eighteen. That's a big number you know, I can still remember my fifteen year old-self talking about how when she was eighteen, she'd be gone...but I couldn't be anymore happier than where I am now.
I mean family wise, money would be nice...but you get what I mean...
Although I'm happy with who I have, I still miss talking to Grayson. Yeah, we haven't spoken for about a month, it's quite difficult considering I live with him.
Oh well, his loss.
"Did you enjoy your day, Katie?" Alicia asks me.
You're probably wondering who Alicia is... well.
We met at school, in the canteen whilst Kelsey was picking on her because of her being mixed.Stupid bitch.
Excuse my language.
See, at our school, there aren't a lot of mixed race girls so, people like Kelsey feel like it's alright to pick on one of the few that are.
It's actually pathetic, if you ask me.
"Yeah, it was amazing, thank you both so much." I hug them both.
"Well, blow out your candles Koala bear!" Alicia urges.
Koala bear: my favourite bear, therefore Alicia's new
nickname for me.I take a deep breath and proceed to make a wish, whilst blowing the last of the smoke and heat away.
When the last candle goes out, a small cheer from my mum and close friend is heard. For the rest of the night, we watch Disney movies, we watch Alice In Wonderland about three times.
And for the whole time, Grayson didn't come into mind, not even once.He was out with Kelsey....
----------------------------------
The front door opens with a loud bang and the smell of beer is drifting from him to the kitchen...
How much did this boy drink? How has he not passed out? How has nobody else woken up?!
My mum's quite a deep sleeper so, unless the noise is coming from directly beside her, she won't wake.
Thank goodness, because even though he isn't her real son, my mum would still yell at him and treat him like her own.
"Grayson!" I whisper harshly. "What's going on?"
"Katie, y-y-you're tttalking to meee" He smiles.
"Sure, we'll go with that." I mutter. "Why are you home so late?"
Instead of a reply, I feel Grayson's arms fly around my waist and his strong grip pulls me in to a hug. "Katie."
This is going to be a long night.
"Yes, Grayson?"
"Will you marry me?"
"Looks as if someone can form proper sentences now."
"Katie...answer the q-question."
"Grayson, wait here." I state as I walk into the kitchen and turn on the tap, fill two glasses with water and then make my way back.
