You walked silently along the wide trail, gazing at the branches of trees as you strolled peacefully onwards. The wind glided through the leaves, an almost whisper-like sound produced from the friction.
Suddenly there was a burst of leaves and out he galloped, atop a large brown stallion.
You widened your eyes in surprise, and barely had any time before he yowled, “Yee-haw” crazily and grabbed you off from the trail.
“Got to catch up to the herd, care to tag along ma’am?” he called behind him, his cowboy hat bouncing on his back after having flown off in the gusting winds caused by the horses’ running.
You just held tightly to his waist as he galloped on, as if you would say no after he’d already pulled you atop the speeding animal.
He directed the horse around a bend of trees, dashed through the forest, hopped over a fallen tree, and then you were out in a wide expanse of field.
A group of cattle came into view, grazing quietly. When they caught sight of him atop his large horse, they began to move away.
“Look at ‘em trying to bush up (hide/run)…” he chuckled, his body vibrating because of this.
“Not on my watch,” he bellowed, and evaded through the cattle, herding them back towards his family ranch.
They understand what he was doing, and all begin to move together towards the ranch.
He leads his horse along the back of the group, pacing around and observing, making sure they don’t get out of line. You bounce along behind him, not all to fond of this high-speed horseback riding, but not all that against it either.
You hear him mumbling to himself as he gazes at a cattle that’s beginning to fall behind, “This one seems a little offish, I reckon he’ll peter out (dwindle away) soon,” he gazed at the cattle with analyzing eyes, “I’ll have to tell the others,” he sighs referring to his family and the others who work at the ranch.
The large fences come into view and he herds them into the acres of enclosed space.
He then leads his horse towards the stables. Before entering, he hops down and reaches his hands around your waist.
“Sorry ‘bout that,” he grinned sheepishly, tipping his hat at you.
“It’s alright,” you laugh, “It was actually pretty exciting,” you grin widely.
He smiles in return, “Well I’ll be right back, I’ve gotta put this one in the stables and brush him down, or I’ll get into a heap of trouble,” he explained as he took the reins of his horse.
“Gotcha,” you replied with a small thumbs-up, then you leaned in and wiped at a splotch of dirt on his cheek with your thumb.
He blushed a bit, “You have my gratitude, miss,” he grinned and pulled his hat off, placing it on your head, “I’ll be right on out in a moment,” he stated, pecking your lips lightly as he led his shining steed into the stables.
