One Hour Later
I can not believe that Gabriella did this. How could she just leave her own baby? Her own flesh and blood? How could any mother ever do that to their own child? I know that women do it everyday, but I just don't understand it. I will never understand it.
We are standing in the hallway and Bryce is having an intense discussion with the nurse. I'm holding the baby in my arms. He is asleep. He has no clue what is going on. He's just a little baby. He will never know his mother. From what we have learned, it seems as if Gabriella has completely lied about her whole identity. She's not even from Los Angeles. We have no way of finding her. She had this planned out. She didn't want this baby. This baby was a burden to her. I look down at the baby and my heart aches.
Bryce leaves the nurse and walks back over to me. "So, what's going to happen now?" I ask, while holding the baby boy in my arms.
"He's going to come with me."
"Don't they have to take a DNA test since she lied about everything else?" I question. What if the baby isn't even his?
Bryce looks down at the baby, his eyes holding so many emotions all at once. "He's mine."
"How do you know?" I ask.
He is still looking down at the baby. "I know."
I nod. "We are going to need a car seat. I'm sure the hospital will give you some diapers and formula to make it for a few days, but I will need to get some stuff before we leave with him." I gesture for him to take the baby. He obliges. The baby looks so tiny in his arms.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to run to the nearest Wal-mart to get some stuff for...him. What's his name, by the way?" I ask. Did Gabriella even give him a name?
Bryce sighs. "She didn't name him....." He trails off.
I place my finger on the baby's tiny hand and smile. "Sebastian."
Bryce looks at me with an intense look in his eyes. "That was my dad's name." Bryce's dad died before I met him, but I had over heard my mother talking to his mom before about his dad.
I smile at him. "I know." I say, softly.
Bryce doesn't say anything for a moment, but by the way he is looking at me I know that this baby boy is going to be named Sebastian. I stand on my tippy toes and give Bryce a quick kiss on the cheek. There I go again....doing that...I back away from him. "I will be back as soon as I can with all the stuff for little guy." I give him an awkward wave and turn around to make my way to my car. I can feel his eyes on me until I get inside of the elevator.
