I'll never understand how being with Travis automatically made me feel safe. It almost made me forget the possibility of me going insane. I didn't want to remember the multiple hits I had taken that day, but there they were in my dreams. The pain just as clear as it was that day.
Travis continued to play with my hair. I glanced up at him and he was staring at the ceiling. I'm sure he's still doing the same thing.
"Mace." He was raspy and he sounded worn out.
"Yeah." My voice almost caught in my throat.
"I don't know." He said and then chuckled. I looked up from his chest and he had a small smile still present on his face. I sat up on his stomach, and looked at him. He glanced up at me, and his eyes turned a different shade, but the smile was still there. I traced his lips with my finger. My eyes fluttered shut and I began to lean in.
My door burst open. I jumped off of Travis and was confused myself. What was I doing?
"Hey Macy, Rachel is coming over Tuesday night and Mom wanted me to tell you to call Travis; I don't guess you have to call him." He wriggled his eyebrows suggestively as I glared at my dumb brother.
"I had a bad dream, idiot."
He gave me an unconvinced nod. "Sure." I growled and threw a pillow at his head.
"Get out of here."
He rolled his eyes playfully and muttered "Always the drama queen." He slammed my door and I glanced over at Travis. I felt my cheeks begin to heat up, was I really gonna do that?
He scratched the back of his neck slightly embarrassed. "I made this awkward too." I muttered.
"Do you wanna watch something?" I ask not really caring if he wanted to or not, cause I just caused an awkward tension that needed to be relieved.
He nodded, but I knew he still wanted to talk about whatever was about to happen. I knew him better than I knew myself, he was probably thinking "I like you as just a friend, Mace."
Which was good, great even. I only liked him as a friend also. I grabbed the tv remote. I decided on Saved by the Bell. I was up to episode 68 on Netflix. I sat on one side of the bed, and he sat on the other. Definitely amplifying the tension that I tried to ignore.
"Come here, Mace." His voice was still husky and I almost shuddered. It was beautiful.
I looked over at him and he was patting the spot beside him. I nodded, because my heart was in my throat. I scooted over beside him and he pulled me as close as possible. His arm fell lazily around my waist and I laid my head on his shoulder.
"Do you wanna go do something later?" I looked up at him and nodded, slightly distracted by the familiar pattern that was being rubbed into my side.
"We can go to the park and you can push me on the swings and we won't get arrested this time." I smiled cheekily at him. He chuckled.
"You're beautiful." He mumbled as he looked down at me. I blushed and looked down at my hands.
"Thanks." I whispered.
"What do you say we ditch Mario Lopez and go have some fun?" He brought himself out of whatever daze he was in.
