The year is 1994. Draco had just escaped his dates clingy hands and is now wandering his way around the corridors. He had never understood the point of the Yule Ball. Nevertheless he had attended with Pansy, much to his protests it was his father's choice and what he said was final.

Draco manoeuvred through the corridors, avoiding couples getting very intimate and others who were having very loud arguments.

At the end of the corridor Draco saw a young girl sat by herself crying. He stopped in his path and watched her, she was indeed very beautiful and he wondered why he hadn't met her before. She was probably from another school. And then it hit him, it was Granger.

He sneered, served her right the filthy mudblood. But he couldn't help but feel a pang in his heart. Did she really deserve to be sobbing her heart out all because of blood?

Draco fought with his thoughts, yes she did she isn't worthy of being a witch. But then he noticed her, there was nothing different about her. If anything she was more extraordinary than the rest of his peers.

He shook his head and looked back at her, debating helping her. He saw another girl go over to her and he felt relief, walking away and not looking back.

"Draco?" Hermione said in frustration as they landed from apparating.

"Yeah?" He replied and then noticed where they were, at the gates of Hogwarts. He had clearly tried to apparate inside subconsciously whilst thinking of the night of the Yule Ball.

"Why are we here?" She asked, clearly unamused.

"Did you think I was taking you back to my place?" He asked with a cheeky wink that made Hermione slap him not so gently.

"Ouch" He said and rubbed his arm where she'd hit him "Okay well remember the Yule Ball?"

Hermione nodded but didn't say anything, she was too busy shivering.

"Let me take you home and then I'll explain." He said as he realised that it was in fact rather cold.

Draco took Hermione's hand and apparated them both back to her apartment where she quickly let them in and raced to her room to grab herself a jumper.

She emerged moments later in joggers and an oversized jumper "So explain." she said but then noticed that unlike her he didn't have any clothes to change into and was still in Hermione's dress.

"Hold on, Harry left a lot of his stuff here when Ginny and him were house hunting I bet there's still a box somewhere." She said and opened a door to a room that was piled full with boxes.

Draco followed her in and looked around at the room, he hadn't even noticed that there was a room he'd never seen in her apartment.
The room was a pale pink with birds flying all around the room painted on the walls. He looked at the piles upon piles of boxes, it looked like a storage room.

"Granger, what's in this room?" He asked, peering around.

"Oh just bits and bobs" Hermione said and picked up a box, quickly ushering him out of the room.

"Here you go" she handed him a tshirt of Harry's and a pair of his jeans.

Draco looked back at the mysterious room, he'd never thought of Hermione as someone with mysteries until now.

He hastily walked into Hermione's ocean themed bathroom, decorated with fish and coral and put on his nemesis' old clothing.

He was taller than Harry so the trousers didn't fit completely right but he didn't want to complain, how could he when he was so incandescently happy.

"So, why did you take us to Hogwarts?" Hermione asked as he emerged from her brightly patterned bathroom.

Draco laughed nervously and flashed her a crooked smile "Well.. remember the Yule Ball? And how you ended up crying on the stairs.. well I saw you that night. I was going to talk to you but I saw someone else and it's just always stuck with me."

Hermione smiled sadly "How different would things have been if you had?"

Draco shook his head "You wouldn't have spoken to me back then anyway, you were too stuck up."

Hermione scowled at him "I was not. You were just a bully."

Draco raised his eyebrows "Like I had a choice, you try having Voldemort turn up at family dinners telling you to kill Dumbledore."

Hermione's face softened "I never thought of it like that..."

Draco shrugged "Why would you? You had other things to worry about."

Hermione nodded and looked away from him, she had felt so many different emotions in the day it was hard to separate them.
She was happy that Draco and her had shared their moment but sad about Ron and confused about Draco and Ron. But most of all she was still incredibly angry, angry at Ron and angry at Lavender.

"Are you okay?" Draco asked, Hermione's face was scrunched up as she thought of Ron and his new girlfriend and their horrible conversation from earlier.

Hermione shrugged and nodded half heartedly "I guess so"

Draco wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck gently "Do you want to read a book?"

Hermione laughed and shook her head "Usually yes but not when I've got company"

Draco gave her a confident smirk "I'm honoured that you'd put down your books for someone as humble as me."

Hermione sighed and gave him a small smile "Humble you?"

They both shared a smile and then burst out into unexplainable laughter, this small moment only lasted a few seconds until their laughter subsided but both knew that this clarifies their connection was there, they were in sync and this journey was only just starting.
