Caitlin

As soon as I closed the car door I felt two small arms wrap around my waist.
"I missed you so much mummy," said Chloe hugging even tighter.
"I missed you too, and someone is coming over tonight," I said suspensfully.
"Is it Cisco again?" She asked excitedly.
"No, it's your father," I said seeing my mother glaring at me from the corner of my eye.
"Isn't that Barry from your work?"
"Yes, see you've already known him without even knowing," I said making it sound better for her as we headed back inside.
"She wasn't too much trouble, was she?" I asked my mother as I walked past her.
"You've got one unique child," was all she had to say which made me laugh because I knew it to be true.

Spending quality time with Chloe after the trip made many heart melt. She suggested that we do some baking. The only experience she had with dough was with playdough at preschool, but for her first time with cookie dough she was quite good. Using flour was a big mistake. The kitchen was almost fully white when we were finished. I was covered in white dust including my hair. I had to wash Chloe and I's hair twice to get all of it out. But in the end Chloe was very proud of herself because the messy work had produced a tray of decent cookies. Decorating was much cleaner and easier than baking them. It was quite hard to persuade Chloe not to eat then abs at least let then cool down a bit. I had made mine into a snowflake and once I saw Chloe's I couldn't keep myself from crying. She had made her cookie look like Barry. I quickly left the kitchen abs wiped the tears that were leading down my face with a tissue and re-entered with my eyes now red.

After dinner I convinced Chloe to let me braid her hair but only if she could do mine. I had done one side and was moving onto the next when I heard a knock on the door. The room fell dead silent except for the tv on the background. Chloe ran up to get the door before me. She opened the door to see Barry standing in the door way wet from all the rain, he had a coat which he probably put on in an attempt to keep himself dry. Chloe just hugged his waist. Barry was quite shocked at this and took a few seconds to put his hands on the back of her head which looked really awkward because one of his hands was the size of her head. She looked up at him with longing eyes.
"Do you want a towel?" I asked him looking at his hair which was soaked by the rain and was now starting to drip down his face.
"A towel would be pretty helpful right now," he said laughing. As I went to get him his towel and saw Chloe taking his hand pulling him inside and showing him everything like the rooms were, kitchen, bathroom and random objects like the tv remote and the pot plant.
"Would you like anything to drink?" I asked him.
"Nah I'm right," he said declining my offer. I sat us all down I  the lounge room.
"So what do you want to do?" I asked her.
"Play a board game," she said instantly without thinking.
"I think it's a bit too late sweetheart,"
"Come on its only one game," said Barry trying to change my mind. Those mischievous eyes changed my mind.
"I guess one game couldn't hurt," I said. But it wasn't just one game it was 3 and before I knew it was 12:00. Barry was sitting on the ground lent up against the couch with Chloe on his lap who was playing with his face.
"You need to clean your teeth," she said.
"Do I now, " he said pretending to be offended.
"Yes, now open wide," said Chloe using her finger to brush his teeth. Barry grabbed her nose with his thumb.
"Stole your nose," he said. Chloe did the same to his nose.
"You have a big nose daddy," she said examining it.
"Yeah I'm glad she didn't get your nose," I said putting the game away.
"But she did get my eyes," said Barry.
"What colour are your eyes?" asked Chloe.
"Green," I said butting in.
"Emerald to be exact," he said.
"Chloe I think its time for you to go to bed honey," I said.
"Can daddy tuck me in?" She asked. Barry yawned and managed to get out a 'sure'. He picked her up in his arms and carried her to her bedroom. I heard him speak for a bit a realised that she had convicted him to tell her a story. I hadn't realised until I heard silence. I thought it was weird that Barry hadn't come back yet. I walked into Chloe's bedroom to see Barry asleep on her bed with her. I laughed at the start but then realised how cute this was and I didn't want to wake him. But I had to.
"Barry wake up," I said slightly shaking him. It had no effect. I lifted his eyelid, this certainly woke him up.
"Caitlin what happened?" He asked confused on what was happening.
"You feel asleep," I whispered. He yawned again as he left the bedroom.
"Barry your too tired to drive home, if you want you can spend the night here," I offered.
"Thanks," he said sitting on the couch taking off his shoes and coat. I got him some blankets and said goodnight. I went to bed myself tired out from this eventful evening. I was just glad Chloe and Barry got on well, if anything too well and the events from Barry and I's past didn't seem to effect tonight at all which was a good start.
