that afternoon, at dott's,
i saw her again.

'ethan, hey.' she sat down besides me.

'hey alexis. why... are you sitting here?'
then i realized how rude that sounded.
'i'm sorry, i didn't mean to be rude. it's not like i want you to leave or anything, but i mean-'

'geez, calm down! i know you didn't mean to be rude.' she laughed it out
'i said i would meet you here, didn't i?'
she put her bag on the little couch we were sitting at.

'i'm gonna order for us ' i stand up, my eyes still laid on her

'you don't even know what i'm gonna get, dumb' she rolled her eyes playfully
while chuckling

'an iced almond milk latte' i winked and walked away, knowing i left her confused
"how did he know?" she might've thought.
that's so comic.

i got our drinks, and put her name as lexis.
i don't know why, but i wanted to give her a nickname.
even though we were not close, i wanted to make an impact on her.
maybe then she would like me, i don't know

'lexis, seriously?' she asked, surprised, when i got back.

'yes. what else?' i smirked, trying to spice things up.
it was a failure, of course.

'you could call me hazel.'
she slightly smiled, her eyes bright and sparkling.

'hazel? what does that mean?'

'my middle name is hazel. i don't usually tell people, but i like it.'

'hey, do you have social studies with mr. iman?' i asked, excited.
we had this big project coming up and it could be my chance to get closer to her.

'wednesday, first period.' she groaned 'such a drag'

'would you want to maybe be my partner in our first semester project?'
i asked, and she looked at me, confused.
'only if you want to'

'sure. i'd love to.'
she looked at her phone screen, that showed a picture of her and another girl
and marked the time. five thirty.
'i have to go. let's start on the project tomorrow.'

she lightly hugged me and leaved dott's.
you got her, ethan.
