❛ chapter twenty eight! ❜
twenty eight| saturn—sleeping at last
Here in the dark, here in the cold of a starry night sky, I can hear my guilt starting to howl along with the wind. The city can be seen at the distance, its scintillating lights spilled all over the skyline. I keep walking with the others, our footsteps audible and crunching the grass underneath us. I'm crying my eyes out internally, as memories shared with H.R. Wells flood into my mind-his silly jokes, his bubbly personality, the drumstick trick he taught me—everything keeps coming, crashing down on me like rubble. Then again, my sadness is eclipsed by a stronger emotion and I feel it flowing through my veins, spreading like fire and reaching every inch of my body and soul: anger. We all know that there's strength in anger and tonight I'm using every last bit of it. There's a permanent scowl on my face, tinting my features with bitterness and I don't think it'll fade any time soon.
"We have to hurry, I must become more before the paradox reaches me," Savitar speaks, setting the splicer on the grass, "today, I become a god," he adds dramatically before speeding to the middle of the grass field, running in circles to open the portal to the Speed Force while Killer Frost and I remain as spectators.
"Get ready Freddie," I tell the white haired girl through a fake grin, when the portal begins to open, her cold eyes meet mine and study my face.
"Ready for what?" She asks almost innocently and a chuckle escapes my lips.
"This is why Savitar needed you," she frowns, the discombobulation brushed roughly on her face, "to kill the Black Flash," I explain, a hum sounds in my throat, "not quite 'killing' him though, he's kind of dead already. He's the Speed Force's guardian dog when someone messes up with time, just like our man is about to do right now."
"And what are you going to do? Run?" She asks and I tilt my head.
"I would, but he's not coming for me," in that moment, Savitar stands beside us and tells Killer Frost a more serious and fancy version of what I've just told her. A dark figure wrapped in red lightning jumps out of the portal and Killer Frost wastes no time in blasting at it; the Black Flash barrels in our direction, both arms reaching out, ready to take Savitar with him and I'm wishing for it to happen; just in time, Killer Frost manages to blast at him one more time and we see him turn into ice, cracking and shattering in the process. I have to say I'm impressed.
"The only thing Black Flash can't fight, cold," the soon to be immortal speedster says before taking his place in front of the portal. I spot the white haired woman struggling to lift the splicer and I sigh and roll my eyes.
"It's not even that heavy, Frosty," I tease as I help her out, earning a glare from her. In matter of seconds, she's shooting at Savitar with the splicer in order for him to become fragmented throughout time.
