{Chapter 5: Hanging out with the Bad Boys?}
"YOU DID WHAT?!" Danielle exclaimed as Katie met up with Danielle and her other friends after school on the front steps as usual.
She sighed. "Cole Hartman asked me to hangout with him and his friends after school today."
"We heard you the first time, darling. So what are you going to do? It's a bit too late to back out now." Sophia explained.
"I don't know. But he did say I can bring a friend." Katie added, her voice hopeful.
"I can't go, Kate. I've gotta babysit my sister. Mom's working late at the hospital tonight." Danielle frowned.
She smiled half-heartily at the fact her best friend couldn't come. "It's okay, Dani. I understand."
Danielle's Dad passed away a few years ago, leaving everything to her mom. But her mom saved almost all of the money for Danielle's College fund. So now Danielle's mom works as a doctor at the local hospital; and takes as many over-time shifts as possible.
"I can't go either." Adela added, frowning. "I've got vocal lessons today."
Adela's a natural musician. She's been playing the piano since she was four and has a beautiful voice. She also takes guitar and piano lessons. It's pretty obvious that she'll make it in the music business.
"I'll go. I can do homework tomorrow morning." Sophia smiled with a wink.
"Thanks so much Soph! I think I'd die if I had to go on my own." Katie gushed as she pulled Sophia into a hug.
"No problem! I'll come by your place around 4:30."
"Okay! Bye guys!"
The four friends bid each other good bye as they all parted ways to their homes.
"Dad! I'm home!" Katie called as she stepped through the front door.
"I'm in the back!" He called.
Katie walked into the backyard, seeing her dad sitting underneath the shade of the gazebo, working on some work as usual. He was a semi-successful author who worked at home in the comfort of shade under the gazebo.
"Where's mum?" Katie asked, peering over his shoulder at what he was writing.
"Hey! No peeking." Her dad whined playfully as he pulled his notebook to his chest. "And your mom is out grocery shopping for dinner."
"Oh! Uh dad can I go to a friends house after school today with Sophie?"
"Sure. Just as long as you're done your homework."
"Thanks dad." She smiled, hugging her father.
"No problem. Do you need a ride there?"
"Yep. Do you mind?"
"Not at all! What time do you have to be there?"
"Hmm... 4:30."
"Okay. I'll call you down later then."
"Kay dad. I'm gonna go do my homework."
"All right,"
With that Katie went up to her room, grabbing her backpack to get started on her homework.
~~~~~
"Katie! Sophia's here!" Mrs. Miller shouted.
"Okay mom! I'll be down there in a second!" Katie shouted as she unplugged her iPhone from the charger before coming downstairs to the front door where her mom and Sophia stood.
