I stood in the middle of my apartment's parking lot for God knows how long. Someone eventually honked at me and said very rude words along with a even ruder hand gesture. I climbed up the stairs and into my apartment.
Dallas Winston lived below me? How could I have not noticed? I do work 2nd shift at The Dingo, and go to class at the local community college 3 days a week. But I thought I would have seen him at least once. Then again, I wasn't very observant.
I was also bummed that he rejected me. I haven't been rejected before. It was a blow to my confidence. But, I didn't give up. I was going to have a drink with him if it killed me.
I looked at the clock, and it was 1pm. I needed to start getting ready for work, but I didn't have a ride.
I stood by the phone for a good 5 minutes. I picked up the phone and dialed.
"Hello?" a changing male voice answered the phone.
"Hey, Pony, um, you think you could come pick me up and drive me to work? I know you can drive, and you have that old truck back behind your house. I won't tell Darry, I swear."
"Well, uh, Heather, I'd love to, but Cierra is over..."
Cierra is Ponyboy's girlfriend. She's real nice, and she works with me at The Dingo, except she works part time and comes in later but leaves at the same time. She's short and skinny, with gorgeous long brown hair. She's the opposite of Pony, but they suit each other.
"Oh! Well, I know she knows how to drive... and hot wire a car. Could she come by?" I asked, hopeful.
"She's uh... busy." he said.
I took the hint.
"Okay, then. I'll find another ride. Thanks anyway Pony. Oh by the way, I'll be stopping by after work to bring you guys food, don't make anything."
"Okay, I'll tell Darry when he gets off work. Sorry about the ride though. See ya later, H." he said.
"Yeah, it's fine. See ya." I hung up.
I sighed, and walked out the door.
I stood outside of Dallas's apartment for 5 minutes.
I knocked. I heard heavy footsteps, and the door opened. Dallas was in boxers and a t-shirt, with his hair disheveled.
I tried not to stare. Especially below the waist.
"Yeah? I was tryin' to sleep." he said, rubbing his neck.
"Yeah... I need a ride to work." I said.
"Uh, can't you get someone else?" he said.
"Nope." I said, popping the 'P'.
"Ugh, I guess I can drive you. What time?" he asked.
I looked at my watch.
"Oh shit! I've got about 10 minutes. If I'm not back down here then, come get me. I live right above you." I said.
"Fine." he shut the door. Rude. I thought.
I rushed up stairs and threw on my Dingo outfit, brushed my hair, grabbed my black bag, and headed out the door.
I ran into Dallas as I was running down the stairs.
"I was just going to get you." he said.
"Good thing you didn't, you might have seen me naked." I said, rushing to his car with him right beside me.
He chucked, and got in the car.
"I might not have minded." he said, under his breath. He probably thought I couldn't hear, but I did. Score!
He drove me, silence the whole way.
It was a short drive, but too long to walk.
"Well. You're here." he said, staring straight ahead.
"Yeah, I could tell. Thanks for the ride." I said.
"Welcome. Hey, turns out I am going to Buck's. Meet me there?" he said.
"Maybe." I said, slamming the car door.
