Lacey Pov

When Bill came for the monthly check up he was surprised to find the house in such a horrible condition. I didn't understand why since fosters homes are all the same. They are so fake. In the beginning they act so nice and welcoming but after a couple weeks they start to treat you like crap.

And they wonder why it's hard for foster children to trust. I learned a while back to build my walls up high so I don't get hurt. The foster family I was currently had to be the worse. They father was always drunk and abusive. No wonder his wife was cheating on him. Not that his wife is any better.

All the money the state gives her to take care for me she just uses it for herself. I am lucky if they feed me since they barely acknowledge my presence. The house was a mess since Chris, my foster father, didn't clean up his beer bottles and his wife would never clean up after him.

"Lacey go pack your stuff up I have a new foster home that you will be staying at until someone decides to adopt you." Bill told me while looking around the house in disgust.

Oh great another foster home with welcoming and loving people. I can't wait. Note my sarcasm. Not that I blame Bill entirely I just don't see how hard it could possibly be to find a decent home for a child. Even I could tell this place was horrible before I step foot in it. The foster system is seriously screwed up.

I got my bag and Bill and I headed out the door. I didn't speak a word which let Bill know I was upset about going to another potentially messed up home.

"Lacey these people are good. They have already adopted four kids and there has never been any complaints about the parents. The moms are really loving." Bill said.

"Moms? As in they're gay." I asked curiously. I had nothing against gay people I was just really shocked.

"Yea they are gay. I hope you don't mind the only other option was a group home." he explained.

"I know. And I don't mind if they are gay I was just really surprised." I replied.

It was then that the car came to an abrupt stop. I had to admit that the house was nice. Looks can be deceiving I reminded myself.

"Alright kiddo behave please. Don't give them a hard time and be nice." Bill told me while opening his car door.

"Yea whatever." I mumbled back. Bill just sighed in response. He already knew I had a low bullshit tolerance so if something was done or said to me that I didn't really like I was most likely to have a reaction. It would not be a pretty one though. This was the only way I had survived this long in the foster system. But I do know when to keep my mouth shut and not to make stupid impulsive decisions.

The two of us walked up the steps to the front door. I held onto my bag with the little things I had while Bill rang the doorbell. This is it Lacey. This home will either make you or break you. I told myself. But I was ready with my guard up for anything thrown my way.
