"May I sit here?"

"Yes" I replied

The silence that followed had me frowning. I tapped the pen in my hand impatiently on the desk. Frustrated when he still didn't move I looked up to find him staring at me with wide eyes.

"What Carter?" I barked.

He blinked "I thought you said yes"

I nodded "I did"

"You did" he repeated.

"Unless you don't want to...." I trailed.

"Of course I want to" he sat down quickly.

I went back to my notebook. A few moments passed before I felt something blunt poke my arm.

"What now?" I sighed and turned in time to find him quickly pulling his pen away.

He smiled sheepishly "Is that a 'yes' for the seat or a 'yes' for the date?"

His question caught me off guard. Trust Carter to be tactless.

"You said you will be the judge of what's good for you" I repeated what he said the other day.

He frowned but nodded nevertheless.

"Well I hope you are a good judge because right now I've no idea what I'm doing" I don't want to do this to him, the least I can do is warn him ahead "I'm drowning and you are the fool who has dived into the flowing water despite not knowing how to swim. Do you think I should take your hand?"

He looked thoughtfully at me before grinning "But I know how to swim. And I'm pretty good at it"

"You are hopeless" I groaned in frustration and turned to my work.

"So is that a yes?" he asked.

I nodded wordlessly.

As the lecturer entered, Alex leaned towards me "Don't worry princess" he whispered "I'll be your knight in shining armour"

_______________

"Teresa, Miller, Adam and Amber" he introduced brightly pointing at each of his friends.

I smiled awkwardly and they waved back hesitantly. This is nerve wrecking.

"Hey Reanna" Amber smiled shyly "Xander talks a lot about you"

Is it allowed to say that he doesn't talk about you guys to me because I just started to talk to him a month ago? No I guess. Mom would be disappointed.

"You guys call him Xander?" was what came out of my lips instead.

"What do you call him?" Teresa asked

I shrugged "Carter"

They all burst out laughing so I looked at Alex for help. He simply chuckled and said "You can call me whatever you want"

"But you can't call him by his last name when you are dating each other" Amber insisted.

"Dating?" my eyes widened

"Dating" Carter nodded firmly. I looked away quietly.

"You are probably wondering why we don't call him Alex" Miller spoke up and I couldn't have thanked him enough.

"Yeah" I nodded "when I think or talk about him I say Alex. I've always called him Carter though"

"You think and talk about me?" Alex wondered out loud. I rolled my eyes. That's all he took from it?
