Dan:

"He kicked me out" Luc said over the phone.

I hummed as I walked out of my office "Does Anna know that?"

"Yeah, she insisted I keep trying to explain it to him but honestly bro it's been two weeks I'm trailing him and he has given me four black eyes. I never knew Alex was this violent"

"Do it for Anna. It will mean a lot to her" I told him jogging into the forest.

"I know. But I feel so guilty every time he glares at me. I mean he is my friend too you know. I hate it here. Is Anna okay?"

"I don't know" I said "she refused to see me for the last two weeks"

"And you were okay with that?"

"I stood outside her door" I admitted.

"Right" I could hear the sarcasm in his voice.

"I'm meeting her now. She asked for me. Gotta go. I see her"

"Good luck"

I hummed and disconnected the call.

Walking slowly into the clearing of the lake, I took in the sight of my mate waiting for me. She said nothing as I took a seat next to her. She was staring at the setting sun, her eyes empty like she had no emotions left to convey.

I pulled her hand into mine, she didn't pull away, didn't look my way either.

"I need to leave" She said softly.

I narrowed my eyes at her "Leave where?" My words came out harsher than I intended them to. It's all out there now, why does she need to leave?

She took a deep breath before turning to face me. "He sent his lawyer to dad's place. I need to be there"

"No you don't" I growled "You are due in less than two months. There's nowhere better than Bluewood for you. I'm not letting you go"

She pressed my hand that held her dragging my attention to our hands "You promised" she said softly.

"The situation was different when I said that" I said firmly "I'm not letting you go now"

She muttered something and looked away.

"What did you just say?"

"Nothing" she mumbled.

"You said something Reanna, I need to hear that" I demanded. I seldom use that tone on her but when I do, I know she obeys even if she doesn't have a wolf; she has always obeyed an alpha whether it was dad or me.

"It's not like you want me here, it's your wolf. Loving you has destroyed everything in my world but do you even feel a fraction of what I feel for you" she said inaudibly.

My heart ached at her confession. I knew she felt this way and I wanted her to bring that up.

I took a deep breath "Will you believe me if I tell you that...."

"No" she didn't let me finish

"Will you ever"

"I can't" she looked away "I can't ever believe you"

"You know it's not fair, don't you?"

She nodded wordlessly determined to end the conversation but I wouldn't let that happen. Every time I let her fear win, she will get further away from me and I can't let that happen. I need her like I need my next breath.
