she was right beside me, her head resting on my stomach. i would have been uncomfortable and awkward if it weren’t for her soothing lyrical susurrations.
we were both tired. tired from picking each other up, from keeping our personal facades up for a long time, tired of the day. i suggested we lie down to sleep and somehow she found herself snuggled onto my chest. her hair was splayed in frantic curls of sunlight. i didn’t usually like blondes, but she was my first exception.
we were supposed to be sleeping. after all, we were tired. but her proximity was too intoxicating; she numbed my tiredness. i couldn’t bear losing myself to a dream right now when she was already right here beside me.
for once, reality proved itself to be more enticing and magical than my flimsy incorporeal imaginations.
