Damien’s POV:

“I don't want to die.”

Her grip loosened.

“Y/N!!! SHAYNE HURRY UP!”

The car sped up as we entered the parking lot. He drove up to the front of the hospital. I got out of the car. I picked up Y/N and held her close to my chest. I ran through the hospital doors.

“Help me!! She's dying!”

Nurses and doctors swarmed around me. Someone took her away from me and I didn't get to say goodbye. Shayne came running through the doors as I stared helplessly after her.

“Damien! What's going on?”

I completely zoned out until he shook my arm. I sat him down and began to tell him the story. About my ex best friend, her ex boyfriend, and how he betrayed both of us. How he became a complete jerk over the years. He could've killed her and all I can do is wait. I have to call the police. After finishing the story I called 911 and gave them the plate number.

“Thank you ma'am.”

I placed the phone down in my lap and stared at my hands. Could I really lose her over this? If I do, I don't know what I'd do with myself… Nothing else motivated me more than she does. If she doesn't make it then I'll make sure I avenge her, or die trying. Please, Y/N, please be okay…

“She'll be okay, Damien,” Shayne reassured me, handing me a tissue. I hadn't even noticed I was crying. I gladly accepted and dabbed my eyes as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

“I know you're worried, I am too. The doctors know what they're doing. Trust them, she'll be okay,” he said calmly. I clenched the tissue.

“YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!” He jumped back in fear. “I'm sorry Shayne. I'm just scared.”

“I know. It's okay Damien.” he gave me a side hug. I'm really worried about her. She means the world to me.

Just then, a doctor approached us. A new wave of fear washed over me.

“Where is she? Is she okay? Please tell me she's okay,” I spurted out. Shayne nudged me.

“Let her talk, Damien.”

“She's going to be okay, sir. She's in emergency surgery right now, but none of her internal organs were damaged. She's having a blood transfusion and her wound is being stitched. She's expected to make a full recovery.” the doctor explained, offering both of us a warm smile. “I'll come back when she's in recovery, and you can visit her then.”

“See? I told you she'd be okay,” Shayne said, pulling me into another side hug.

I let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you so much, Doctor.”

Your POV:

Light flooded my eyes before I opened them. I felt groggy and sore. I shifted and rubbed my head as I took in my surroundings. The room was clinical, with nothing but a bedside table, a comfy chair and loudly beeping hospital machines by my head.

“Ah, Miss Y/L/N, you're awake. How do you feel?” the nurse addressed me, to which I just grunted.

“Wh… Where's Damien?” I asked, wincing at the pain in my throat. Damn anaesthetic.

The nurse smiled, “He's outside waiting. I just need to check your vitals, then you can have visitors. Would you like me to send him in first?” I nodded. “Very well.”

I watched as she fidgeted with the cannula in my hand before closing my eyes and listening to the beeping of the machine.

I only opened them again when I felt arms around my neck and tears dripping onto my cheek.

“I'm okay,” I whispered, burying my head in the crook of his neck and stroking the back of his head.

He just tightened his grip around my neck. “I can't believe I almost lost you… I'm so so sorry, Y/N,” he mumbled. “I should have been there, or been quicker, I'm sorry.”

“It isn't your fault, Damien. You and Shayne are the reason I'm alive…”

He kept holding me as if I was going to leave him.

“I'm not leaving this room until they say you can leave.”

“Damien, I can't ask you to do that.”

“You don't have to.”

He let go of me and sat down in the comfy looking chair. I smiled at him with the happiest smile I've ever had. He saved my life. Shayne walked through the door with an “it's a boy” balloon. I started laughing, though it hurt.

“They didn't have any ‘Get well’ balloons.”

Damien was dying in the chair.

“Of course they didn't.”

Shayne came over and gave me a light kiss on the cheek. I heard a low growl coming from Damien. I looked over at him.

“Down boy.”

Shayne started giggling.

“Sorry, I'm just a little on edge.”

“I know. I'm okay. I promise.”

I grabbed his hand reassuringly, rubbing my thumb over his knuckles. Shayne cleared his throat to get my attention.

“Sorry Damien. Look, Y/N, we can't be together. I like you, don't get me wrong, but I only went after you because I was in pain. I needed a distraction. You'll find someone better. I’m sorry I put you through this.”

He look over at Damien and smiled.

“Well, I need to get going. I have to play Mario Kart so I can - one day - destroy Damien.”

We all laughed a little. Someone has to take care of my little puppy, I can't leave him alone at home.

“Hey, Dames?” I asked, squeezing his hand lightly. “Maxwell is at home alone and I haven't left him by himself before, could yo-”

“I’ll explain the situation to Courtney and have her look after him until you're better. She could even introduce him to Jango.”

I smiled and nodded my head. I'm glad he'll be with another little puppy. I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Quiet mumbles woke me up from my sweet dream. I realized that the mumbles were coming from Damien. I could kind of make out what he was saying.

“No… Y/N… Please wake up… I love you… Please wake up… I can't lose you…”

Wait, what? He… loves me? No, it's just a dream. He suddenly jerked up from the chair. He started staring at me with tears trickling down his cheeks. He quietly mumbled something. I couldn't quite understand what he was saying.

“I'm sorry Damien, you're gonna have to speak up.”

He climbed in bed with me and just held me. I laid my head against his chest. His heartbeat soothed me to sleep. I heard his sweet voice before the peaceful darkness of sleep took me away.

“I love you.”
