SAGE
"Babe, come on chop chop! We have to get to Bella's before our reservation. You know how strict they are," Ethan reminded me for the fifth time since I had gotten my shoes on.
"You really want me to leave the house looking crazy?"
"That's impossible babe, and you know it."
I rolled my eyes and tried to keep myself from smiling too hard. The last couple months have been a whirlwind of emotions and today Ethan decided to treat us for being strong and getting through it all.
"Why did you choose Bella's again?"
"Because they have the best chicken alfredo on this side of the city and I know it's your favorite."
My heart felt warm and at peace as I looked at him. He was finally back to his old self again, glowing and happy all the time. My baby was back.
"Come on we gotta go!" He urged as he swiftly wheeled behind me and began to push me out the door.
The elevator ride down was oddly tense, like something needed to be said but wasn't. Before I could ask Ethan though, the door popped open and we were ready to go on our way.
. . .
"Oh this is really good," I moaned around my fork of pasta.
"See? you can't tell me I didn't tell you so," he smirked and nudged me.
"Ok, I should've trusted you more going into this."
"And?"
"And I'm sorry I didn't have as much enthusiasm as I do now."
"Aaaand?"
"And I'll ride you into the sunset tonight. There. Are you happy now?" I giggled as the waiter took our plates away and cast us a weird glance.
I turned to Ethan who was trying his best to stifle his laughter.
"There was nothing funny about that, ok?" I pouted and he just started laughing harder.
"Oh God, that guy's face. He's never seen two people in love in his whole life," he cackled.
I just rolled my eyes a scooched away from him. He tried to move back and I moved farther.
"Babe, I'm sorry," He chuckled, "I just thought his face was funny. You know how much I appreciate you."
I folded my arms and huffed. I knew I was being petty but I didn't care.
"Baby?" He asked in a sing song voice, "Are you mad at me?"
When he got no answer he resorted to cruel tactics.
"Why is my little gumdrop upset at me? Did I do something wrong?"
His endearing pet name, however, was met with silence. I refused to cave that easily.
"Gummy bear? Pixie stick? Baby, what do I have to do? You can't stay like this all night I have so much more planned and-"
I quickly cut him off with a kiss resumed my previous position snuggled into his side.
"Let's get out of here," I murmured and he immediately reached for the check to pay.
"You're gonna love whats in store for us next."
. . .
"Are we there yet?"
"Nope."
