MCKENNA
☆♒︎☆♒︎☆♒︎
AS SUNDAY ROLLED AROUNDMCKENNA was extremely nervous. Sunday was the day she'd find out if she had made it onto the Gryffindor quidditch team. McKenna wasn't entirely bothered about actually being on the team, what she was bothered about however, was if Sirius Black decided to rub it in her face. She wanted to prove him wrong, she wanted to prove to him that a girl like her actually could make a pretty good chaser.
She was determined to be on the team when the tryouts happened and the determination hadn't left her system. She wanted validation she was great; she wanted validation that she had proved him wrong, yet again.
Over the four years that McKenna Stein and Sirius Black had known each other, she had proved him wrong many times. She had proved she was better at potions, she had proved she was a faster runner, she had proved she was one step ahead of him in every single way and now she wanted to prove she was good enough for their house team.
It wasn't always Sirius Black that he had competition with, she had competition with his three friends too. With James Potter it was always about who could say or do the most without being embarrassed or refusing too, it usually ending in McKenna winning, however James won sometimes. With Remus Lupin it was about who knew the much; who knew the most facts about owls, who knew the most about Godric Gryffindor, who knew the most about Minerva McGonagall. Then with Peter Pettigrew, it was always about who'd win duels, the two had them frequently and were usually sentenced to detention, much to Lily's dismay, though neither of them could agree on who won as they both shot spells that were equally as powerful.
Sirius Black was her target for defeating, and she'd make sure he'd burn.
"Kenna, come on! You're going to be late!" Lily had yelled as she stood at the door, her arms folded and her foot tapping. McKenna rolled her eyes as she placed the bobble at the end of her plait. The redhead stood up and yanked the Gryffindor sweater over her head before she walked through the now opened door, she could quite clearly hear Lily's stomps on the stairs behind her.
In the common room before her was James Potter, who was looking rather cross, and Sirius Black, who had an impatient look. "See, Lils, these two idiots haven't left yet." McKenna said as she pulled the redhead behind her, their hands latched together. The two girls could hear the two boys groan loudly as they followed behind.
It was quiet for a minute, McKenna knew it wouldn't last, it never did when they were around. They had just come out of Gryffindor tower when she had heard the infamous voice that belonged to James. "So, Evans, you coming to see me be crowned as a Chaser?"
Lily clicked her tongue as walked out of the portrait hole, her hand still latched onto the Stein girl's. "No, actually, I'm here to see my best man Black get Chaser."
