"You may now, kiss the bride" the Priest said. I looked at his face. His smile spreading cheek to cheek. His eyes wide, excited to see what holds on this new chapter of life. He leans in for the kiss. She kisses back. Me and the rest of the audience applaud and cheer. My best friend is now married to her high school sweet heart, love of her life. At the reception I reconnect with old high school friends that also attended the wedding. Delilah always did keep in touch with most of those in our high school. Delilah has been my friend since 2nd grade. Our dads worked at the station together. She met Derek, her now husband in the 6th grade. She's always been poking me at when I'll find that "special someone". I never cared much about relationships in high school, I was always focused on my grades. Once I graduated and went into the U.S. Army I was always focused on being top rank. Now in the station, the only "man" around near my age is Gavin, and fuck no would I ever hook up with that Prick. While other girls went out on dates and movies in high school I was at home tinkering with motherboards and trinkets. Making robots and improving dads TV or my Xbox. Christmas's where my dad would buy me toy robots intended for play I used for spare parts to build bigger, better, and more efficient ones. When the first model of Android was released I was ecstatic! Now that Androids roam on a daily basis with us humans it's hard not to let my nerd side show. I always keep to date on the newest models out. Looking at the hardware and bio components that make up each and every new model. Though I do not own and Android of my own I always find myself looking at the available ones in store. Sad, slavery is something only in history books now yet we buy labor from these androids. Is that not a form of slavery? It's not right to me. AI is smarter than every human, so how can they not have feelings and emotions? They live and have functioning bodies like all of us, yet because we have different colored blood it is okay to enslave them? No. Just doesn't make sense. I was quickly snapped out of my thoughts as Delilah tapped my shoulder. "Oh hey! I'm so glad you could make it!" She says hugging me. "Wouldn't miss my best friends wedding for anything." I smiled. "One day the roles will be switched... you'll be wearing the dress and I'll be cheering for you. Right?" She was very serious. "Doubt it" I replied. "Oh come on! My dad even said he'd walk you down the isle. It would make him so happy." She said rubbing my shoulder. "Always pictured the day my dad would walk me down... but...." my thoughts and words couldn't sync. "I know you're dad will still be extremely proud of you. And no matter who walks you, he'll be there, by your side, in spirit" a tear running down her face. "Delilah, I just don't ever see myself settling down." I reminded her. "You just haven't found the one" she smiled looking at Derek. "Mrs. Delilah. Would you like a drink?" Arthur, Delilah's Android, asked. "I'm fine Arthur, thank you, why don't you mingle, have some fun?" She recommended. "Yes Ma'am" as he walked away I began studying him; his LED turned yellow when she recommended he have fun; back to blue soon after. "Hey now Maria. When I said find a man I DID NOT mean an Android...." she snapped me back to reality. "Pfft! An Android!" I laughed "Me? Date an Android? Ha no" I laughed again. "Good. You need a man you can grow old with, have kids with, live a normal life with" she said. Derek signaled Delilah over. "Hey I need to go but a little birdie told me the bouquet toss is in 10 minutes, and I want you to try unlike Becky's wedding where you hid in the corner and watched me catch the bouquet" she laughed "no promises" I sighed. She smiled and walked away. I made my way to the food table and watched all the single women lunge and fight over a simple bouquet of flowers. I was perfectly happy sitting at a table snacking on chocolate cookies rather than fighting for roses thank you very much. I tried my best to enjoy the rest of the reception. As it goes, work started tomorrow bright and early.
There you go. Part 1
