Chapter 36

~ Sunday 8 pm
I don't wanna get out of bed.  But I get up and I pick out an outfit.

I wear my boyfriend jeans and a thrasher hoodie..

I'm waiting downstairs till I feel a tap on my shoulder.

I gasp as I turn around to see joey recording me.

"Joey! You scared me! Holy fuck."

He's laughing and smacking his knees like the most funniest thing on earth happened.

"You really need to stop using our emergency key."

"I'm totally gonna keep using that emergency key." He puts his arms around my shoulders.

"Are you ready to gaze up at the stars?" He pulls me closer in a half way hug.

"Yes I am !"

When we get to his moms car I think twice on getting in the car with him.

"Just get in the car, it won't hurt you" He says.
So I get in.

"...I hope" he adds.

"Joey."

"I'm joking!!" We laugh.

He struggles starting up the car.

"Oh my gosh, Joey" I reach over and start the car easily.

"I knew that" he scratches the back of his neck.

"Just go"

He backs up slowly and starts driving off. I start to get anxiety when he starts to drive but I start to get used to it.
I turn on the radio and the song "all I want" starts to come on.

I day dream out the window about how my life would be in New York and how I hope to forget about everything that happened the night with Mikey.

"Madison" joey says.

"yes"

"Did you fuck Mikey?" He keeps his eyes on the road.

"Joey, are you serious right now? You brought me out here to ask me that?" .

"I was just asking, don't make it a big deal" He looks at me then back at the road.

"Whatever Joey"

"So did you?" He asks again.

"Joey. No! I didn't have sex with him, okay?" I lie.

"Yeah, ok"

I didn't have sex with him but he had sex with me.

He pulls in this drive thru.

"This was me and my fathers favorite diner" he smiles, looking at the menu.

"Where's your-"

"What do you want? It's on me, they got really huge burgers, milkshakes, and really salty French fries ,I don't recommend" he rolls down his window.

"Um.. I'd take whatever you're getting"

"I was hoping" he smiles.

"Hello, what can I get for you tonight?" The guy says.

"Hey, can I get two orders of number one. Please" Joey says.

"Sure, head up to the front window for your order"

We drive up to the front window and our food is already done.

"The total would be 15.79" he hands us the food and joey gives him the money.

"Thank you, have a goodnight" Joey smiles.

We pull into the parking lot.

"Don't worry, we're not gonna star gaze in the car. We're gonna star gaze on the top of that wall" he points in front of us.

There's a short wall standing still in front of us. I guess we're eating first.

"Here ya go!" He hands me my food, clearly excited.

I open my burger they are huge.

"They are huge, right?"

"Hell Yeah!"

He takes a bite like it's nothing. While I'm sitting her trying to figure out if I can put this big burger in my mouth.

I break it in half and start eating.

"Good right? Try the milkshake" he puts his burger down and puts the straw inside of my milkshake and hands it to me.

I take a sip. It's so good.
"This is good"
"Tell me something I don't know" he joked.

After we ate we sat on top of the wall. He helped me up. It's taller up close.

I looked up at the sky and back at the road where cars passed by every second.

" is everything alright with you?" He takes out some weed.

"Yeah. Why?"

"You seemed so.. like ... in your own world the car ride here" he rolls up his weed.

"That's supposed to be a good thing, right?"

"I mean... you looked worried" he takes a hit.

"Everything is fine"

"You can talk to me , you know?"

" ok"

I cross my legs.

She usually watches every move. That's the clever in her. But the ride home she was in her own gaze.

She didn't look up once. She didn't even make eye contact when I said something.

"Where's your father?"  She breaks the silence.
