Chapter 42

" Can you get up this time?" Mom says, standing at my door with a cup of coffee.

She woke me up earlier but I begged her for 10 more minutes so we made a deal. When she's done getting ready she comes to wake me up.

" What's the point ? Getting up so early it's like 9 am and it's summer. I should sleep in"  I sit up  and rub my eyes.

" You have been sleeping in this whole summer. Plus, we're gonna have breakfast with the Birlems " she smiles.

I lay back down adding a groan.

" You're gonna see your friend Joey, sparkle up" she adds before closing the door.

I groan even louder as I roll off my bed.

Turning on the shower in the bathroom, I groan once again.

" If only my mom knew what's really the deal!" I shout getting in the shower.

" What's really the deal?" She knocks on the door.

" Um... nothing, I'm just tired" .

When I'm done getting ready we walk to Joeys house.

" Don't have an attitude, please" mom says before she knocks.

" I'm not." I roll my eyes.

Jen comes to the door. ( I think that's how you spell her name don't come at me)

" Hey , Vanessa! " she hugs mom.

" good morning!"  Mom replies.
They share hugs and jen waves at me.

When we walk in Joey and Sophia is setting the table.

" Madison and Joey, would you guys mind taking a quick stop to the store to get butter and orange juice ?" Jen says.

" Sure" joey grabs the money.

I roll my eyes. Why can't he just do it himself.

He walk out and I follow behind him.

Right when he close the door he starts explaining himself just like I imagined.

" Madison, I swear I was gonna tell you. We only lasted like two days but we broke up because she's moving" he explains.

" okay" I act like I don't care.

Acting like I don't care is something I'm working on. Especially with joey. I don't want him seeing me upset again.

" so.. do you forgive me" He asks.

I look up at him and he's giving me the puppy dog eyes.  I can't help but laugh.

" is that a yes?" He smiles.

" I guess" I sigh.

" Cool" He smiles.

We go in and get the butter and orange juice and head back home.

When we're home everyone is seated and ready to eat.

" Just in time" Jen gets up and grabs the butter and juice.

Me and joey sit next to each other.

" Let's start eating" Jen says sitting back down.

We start getting our food.

" Should we tell them?" Mom looks at Jen.

" Sure" she smiles.

" well... Me and Jen been planning a vacation to Malibu." They smile.

" We rented a beach house " Mom explains.

" We figured since you guys are moving to New York, we're gonna have a vacation and stay there for a week. Just us five" Jen says.

And here it goes.

" New York ?" Joey questions.

" Yes, we are moving to New York. Madison didn't tell you" mom says.

" Nah, she didn't" he looks at me then gets up and walks away.

" Joey, stop" i start to get up and follow him.

" Give him time to manage this" Jens says.

I sigh and sit back down.

Everything happens so quickly. Should I just cut him off and try not to remember him so I won't miss him? Or should I just try to make up with him and be friends or whatever we were again?
