Chapter 55

THEY say that when you're in love with someone you would do anything to make them happy.

I believe I am in love with Charles. The only thing left for me to do is tell him. Then break his heart. I want him to be happy and find another girl . As much as it make me jealous I want him to be with another girl. Be happy with her. Not hung up on a dying girl like me.

So I called him over to visit me. I don't know how to say this to him but I have to.

I'm waiting for him to come.

My parents took my little brother out for ice cream to explain what's really happening to me.

Finally Charles is walking in. My heart suddenly breaks even though I haven't told him yet. He looks so happy to see me.

" Hey , Babygirl. How you feeling?" He asks, pulling a chair over by my hospital bed and sitting down.

Here goes nothing.

" Charles.. we need to talk about something"

" yes, what's the matter. Do you need anything?! Did I do anything wrong- "

" Are you in love with me?" I ask cutting him off.

I start to tear up as I turn my head over to look at him.

" of course " he smiles.

" So let me go "

" What ?" He's confused.

"  I love you Charles. But you need to make one promise for me" I feel warm tears run down my face.

" what happened? What do you mean let you go? What's the promise ? Baby, tell me what's up " he holds my hand.

" promise me that I will always be in your heart. Promise me you will never forget about me."  I pause.

" Tell me what's happening "

" just listen to me , please" I say.

He nods as his eyes turn red.

" Charles, go find another girl and grow old with her . " I add .

" I want to grow  old with you, please don't leave me !" He says.

" I know, I want to grow old with you too. But I'm dying and I want you to be happy while I watch over you" now I'm crying.

He looks down and goes in the praying position.

It's silence.

" you promise  ?" I ask.

" you promise me you will find another girl and have a wonderful future with her while I'm watching you and while I'm being by your side for the rest of your life."

" .... I promise" his voice cracks.

Now he's crying in my arms and I can't help but to hug him and squeeze onto him so tightly, knowing that this is the last time I will hug him.

" I will never forget you! I love you so much " He cries .

" I know you do. I love you too"

- the next morning

" am I alive ?" I ask my mother who is leaning over me crying.

Everyone is here. My grandparents , my parents , my cousins . My whole family except for Madison.

I know she couldn't make it here . I know she's busy with her life. So I wrote a letter for her and I left a few things for her at home.

Charles is leaning over the bed on the other side looking down at me. He stayed the night over here with me.

" yes, honey." Mom says.

" it's time " dad says as the doctor walks closer.

" I know " and now my eyes are getting heavy.

I feel it now.

I'm going now.

" I love you guys " I mumble.

" we love you too!" They say.

My mom and dad leans over and kisses me.

" Rest easy , babygirl" dad whispers in my ear.

" remember what I said Charles " I look over at him.

And he's smiling with tears coming down from his eyes.

" See you soon, Alexis " grandma says .

Grandpa kisses me on my forehead and smiles. He's deaf  so he can't speak.

Suddenly I feel happy.

" tell Madison I love her so much , Tell Toby I love him too." I say.

" I love you" my little brother toby says.

My eyes start to get heavy so I close them. A white cloud takes over my sight .
