Grassy Field

The wind was a thumb's length away from me

I could see the seven skies

My feet hovered over the grassy fields

Your smile gave everything a hint of gold

We were looking for fairies

Behind the leaves

By the tree

We wanted to ask them for a favor

You said it was impossible for us to find one

I said it was impossible for me to watch you break and suffer

We went by the river

By the growing crops

To no avail

The sunset was creeping and you had to go home

I let you go and I stayed in the field

It felt like a mistake

I saw your father that morning and he was angrier than usual

It really did feel like a mistake

Turns out it was

Because an hour after the sunset

I was lying by the bank of the river

I felt the water slowing down

The sky freezing

The plants dying

The wind mourning

You always did say that your spirit lied in the grassy field

Sadly,

Now I have proof

As I watched the grassy field die
