A.N: I'm uploading another chapter tonight for Taylah, because I promised I'd write her two if she went to the doctor today without being a pain, and she did. So here ya go retard, loves ya ;) <3
February 2010
“I know you’re nervous and everything babe, but if you don’t hurry up, we’re going to be late.”
“Sorry, I’m coming,” I ran out of the bathroom, smoothing out my clothes. The good thing about my new school was that there was no uniform. Anything went as long as you were wearing the school colours: red, navy, white and sky blue. Taylah had stayed over last night and helped me pick out an outfit of red skinny jeans, a white singlet and a navy blazer with red trim.
“I’m guessing I’m driving you two?” Max popped his head into the room and we nodded before breezing past him and downstairs. He followed and jumped into the car, speeding off down the street.
“Smile newbie,” Tay ordered, holding up her iPhone. I smiled and pulled a double thumbs-up and she snapped the picture. Looking over her shoulder I saw her attach it to a tweet.
ItssTaylahBitch What a cutie getting all excited for her first day ;)
I’ll be the first to admit that twitter was like crack to me. Tay had gotten me into it and now I couldn’t stop. It was alright though, considering it was the only social network I was on since I’d never bothered to reactivate Facebook. It was so much better, as nobody from my past had managed to find me on it. Plus, I had a claim to a bit of internet fame, being Max George’s little sister and all.
We pulled up outside an old looking cluster of buildings. I reached over the front seat to kiss Max’s cheek and he wished me luck before driving off. Tay grinned at me encouragingly and dragged me towards the reception area.
“Hey Mrs Shiels,” she greeted the reception lady cheerfully. “This is Maeve, it’s her first day.”
“Welcome to Preston College, dear,” she smiled at me kindly while handing me a folder of papers. I found myself following Taylah into homeroom, gaining the attention of every set of eyes in the room. The teacher barely looked up before waving us to our seats. If only the students were so uninterested.
“Aren’t you Max George’s sister?” A girl leaned across and whispered once I’d taken a seat. I nodded nervously, playing with the end of my ponytail, a habit I had when I got shy or nervous.
“Hey, why don’t you guys find me this interesting?” Taylah pouted, pointing out that she was just as well known as me, well except for the fact she hadn’t been seen around with the boys as much as I had up until a month ago.
“Because we’re used to you,” the girl rolled her eyes. “You’re boring now.”
“Rude,” Tay huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. I laughed and she couldn’t help but join in.
“I’m Maeve by the way,” I told the girls and they all introduced themselves in return. Note to self, get better at remembering names.
“Fret no more,” I yelled, coming through the front door and dumping my bag. “We’re home!”
“Damn it,” I heard Siva curse. “Quick, hide the chocolate.”
“I think your forgetting my super sonic power of smelling chocolate a mile away,” I patted his head as I passed. “There hasn’t been any chocolate in this house since I ate it last night.”
“You have a gift,” Nathan said, impressed.
“How was your first day?” Max asked without looking up from his sheet music.
“Fantastic,” I said honestly, jumping up to sit on the bench. “It’s definitely different, I mean I actually have friends at this one.”
“It’s true,” Tay whined as she flopped down in a chair. “They like her better than me now. Damn your incredibly likeable charm.” I just winked at her and continued to swing my legs back and forth.
“Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me,” I said lamely, dusting invisible dirt off my shoulder.
I spotted a bowl of lollies on the table, a party mix by the looks of it. I caught Jay’s eye and clapped, the only signal he needed to fish out a red snake and chuck it to me. I caught it in my mouth, chewing on it proudly. We’d been perfecting that move for months before they went touring. Good to know we still had our incredible skills as a team.
“Maxine, I’m hungry,” Tom complained, throwing a lolly at Max’s head. “Feeeeeed me!” We all started chorusing with him, putting on stupid voices as we begged him.
“Fine, go order a pizza or something,” we cheered and Tom shot up immediately to grab the phone. Everyone started shouting their orders to him while he dialled and he held up a hand to silence us.
“Hi, could I please get a large pepperoni, a large cheese and garlic, a large hawaiin, a large meat lover’s, a large with the lot and a large barbeque chicken? Oh and throw in a couple of garlic breads too,” Tom went into serious mode, making us all laugh quietly.
He hung up and we went back to mucking around, mostly involving a lolly fight between Nathan, Jay, Taylah and I. The doorbell rang and I jumped off the bench to answer it. I slid down the hall in my socks, which failed when I couldn’t stop and ended up slamming into the door.
“We heard that dumbass,” Nathan and Taylah laughed from the other room as I opened the door.
“I was just giving the door a hug, okay?” I shot back. I turned to find a cute teenage guy holding boxes of pizza and pretending that he wasn’t looking at my boobs. God, this kid was still working there? He needed to get a life. He smiled flirtatiously and I gave him a small smile in return.
“Hey there,” he greeted, leaning against the doorway. Wasn’t he supposed to give me my food and leave?
“Hi,” I said, not paying much attention. “One of you lazy shits better get your ass out here and help me carry these or I’m grabbing mine and ditching.”
“Having a bit of a party?” The guy asked, peering inside.
“Nope,” a voice said behind me as Jay reached over me and grabbed the boxes from the guy. He handed over the notes, but the guy still stood there. “Anything I can do for you?”
“Not you mate,” the guy said smoothly, keeping his eyes on me. “Unless you’ve got her number to give me?”
“Um ew,” I laughed before swinging the door shut in his face. “And you can keep the change!” Jay high fived me and we raced back into the kitchen. I managed to skid to a stop just before I hit the back of a chair, grabbing onto Tay’s shoulders to steady myself.
“What was that about?” Siva asked curiously, digging into the food.
“Oh the pizza boy was getting a little hot under the collar, if you know what I mean,” Jay said casually. The boys all laughed and I rolled my eyes, trying to stop a blush. “I just made sure he kept it in his pants is all.”
“Jay!” I spat out, my cheeks going bright red as the floodgates opened. He just laughed and passed me another piece of pizza before sitting down, seeming not to notice my eyes burning holes in the back of his head.
