William's POV

As me and my comrades tread the dirt road on our horses, I look around, taking in my surroundings and the cold air along with it.

Valkenheim is one hell of a place. Back in Ashfeld, There is little to no snow but here, there's snow everywhere! Almost makes me want to make a snow angel.

I was soon snapped out of my thoughts by my commander, walking next to me on his horse and shaking my shoulder gently.

"Stop day-dreaming William. Sooner or later that'll get you killed" he said

"Sorry commander. I'm just a little bored as hell right now" I replied, taking off my helmet and raking my metal covered fingers through my raven colored hair. I had it cut before leaving Ashfeld and It felt strange, to me, to have such short hair.

" You're gonna see action in time. Just be patient. An impatient warrior is a dead one. Remember that." My commander said before moving up to be at the front of the group.

I internally groan.  'Why' I thought. 'Why'

Why was I put on this mission? I know I'm a Warden but I'm a substantial one at best. Why didn't they entrust someone better or someone else in general?

As I think this, I also think back to the day I was assigned this mission as if it were but moments ago.

*Flashback*

I walk down the hall of the use-to-be Blackstone fortress to meet with General Cross about a subject he wanted to speak to me about.

It's amazing how this place was once the home of Apollyon, the last Blackstone warlord. I never liked her. I was once apart of the Blackstone legion as a simple soldier but I jumped ship when I fully realized what she was after. War. All out bloody war. I thought her death would've stopped it all. All the conflict, all the blood being spilled but no. She got what she wanted in the end and got what she deserved too. her death.

I arrive to General Cross's office in record time. I Knocked on his door and waited for him. I didn't wait long because he immediately opened it as fast as I knocked.

"Come in William and take a seat please" Cross said, taking his seat behind his desk.

I obeyed and waited for what he had to say.

"Alright William. I'm not gonna beat around the bush with you. You're not doing your duties" he said with a face so stern, you think he was a statue.

Oh  that

"Sir, with all due respect, I have been doing my duties. I've been.......cleaning the stables, help train the recruits, help the maid serve up dinner. I've been doing all that" I shot back.

"What you HAVE been doing is drinking at the bars in town when you should be training, spending god knows how many nights in that brothel you're so fond of, and sleeping in when you shouldn't" he said sternly.

"Now that's not-"

"Don't" He said, never once breaking eye contact.

I immediately shut up

If there's one thing you should know about Holden Cross, it was that he is fearsome. He isn't the lord Warden's second hand for nothing. You disrespect him, there'll be hell pay but that hardly ever happens. Everyone respects and admires him. He and the lord Warden are what every Knight strive to be. Honorable, powerful, and successful.

"What I see in front of me is a young prodigy and wasted potential. 25 years old and already a Warden. A great fighter too. It just that you lack discipline and self control. Now I'm sending you on a mission along other Knights to Valkenheim. I've gotten word about a settlement containing supplies we need and for the people. Consider this your punishment for slacking off." He said.

I nod and accept it because I can't really say no to my commanding officer.

Before I leave, general Cross tells me one last thing

"You have potential William. Use it! And don't fuck it up!"

*Flashback ends*

I frown as I replay the memory again

'Undisciplined and lack self control?'

I wouldn't be a Warden if I didn't have discipline and self control!

Ahhh whatever

Before I could think some more to pass the time, an arrow is shot into my Horses neck, toppling him over, along with me.
