Snowflakes and Sunburns

"Hey, you up for an adventure?" Hunter asked over breakfast the day after our New Years Party.

"An adventure with you? Always." I smiled, pouring milk into my shreddies. "What did you have in mind."

"It would be kind of outdoorsy. We can bring Cole." I smiled and nodded. About an hour later, Hunter outfitted Cole with his winter coat, we pulled on our boots and jackets. The sun was shining which helped warm up the January air. We loaded into the car and Hunter headed east out of the city. The buildings and signs were soon replaced by trees, hills and suburban homes. After about thirty minutes, we pulled up to what appeared to be a hiking trail and park.

"We have arrived," Hunter turned off the ignition and climbed out of the silver Jeep Wrangler. I fetched Cole and looked around. "I stumbled across this park and trail when I first moved out here. It's really peaceful and the trail wraps around the reservoir."

"This is super nice." We walked hand in hand for over an hour, enjoying the peace and calm around us. "So, I feel like we always dread this part ... but when do I see you next." I asked and Hunter squeezed my hand.

"It's not fair of me to ask you to take more time off of work, I don't want you getting fired." Hunter said with a hint of concern in his voice.

"Getting fired from Starbucks is the absolute least of my worries," I rolled my eyes. "It's not fair of me to expect you to stop working to come see me either." Hunter nodded. He had a few big projects coming up. "I have an idea. We have this somewhat wacky holiday in February called 'Family Day', and why don't I come down for a week - maybe a little Valentine's Day fun." I gave him a little nudge.

"I like the sound of that." He wrapped his arm around my waist and we looped around the trail and headed back toward the car. "You tired Cole?" Cole was slowing down and began looking fairly tired.

"How old is he again?" We stopped to give him a break.

"He's going to be eight this March." Once Cole looked more rested, we finished our walk and made it back to the Jeep. The drive back to the condo was quiet, the trees slowly disappeared as signs, billboards and buildings filled the skyline. We got back in the condo and I decided to start making lunch. While I scanned the pantry and fridge, I gave Hunter some options. "Grilled cheese, pizza, or pasta?"

"Grilled cheese sounds good!" He walked over into the kitchen and got a frying pan. We made and ate lunch together. "I have a meeting tomorrow with the team to see what's on the plate for the next few weeks. Tomorrow we also release that new music video!"

"That's great, I can't wait to see it." I smiled, cleaning up my plate and finding a comfortable spot on the couch. Hunter joined me and we cuddled up for the remainder of the afternoon.

"Hunt?" He looked toward me, "you got a sun burn from our walk." I chuckled, gently placing my hand on his cheek. He rolled his eyes and kissed my hand before turning his attention back to whatever we were watching.
