"The star's gone out. And the rings are frozen." The four of them looked at Nidavellir with shocked faces. They flew the pod closer before eventually making there way inside the structure where it was a ghost town. Almost as if no one had ever existed there. "Land the pod," Ingrid told Rocket who listened and once they landed, the four jumped out of the pod before taking a better look at the place devoid of life.
"I hope these dwarfs are better at forging than they are at cleaning. Maybe they realized they live in a junk pile in the middle of space." Ingrid shook her head at the furry creature and looked around whilst listening to Groot play his video games. "The forge hasn't gone dark in centuries."
"It doesn't make any sense, unless-" Ingrid stopped and looked at Thor who furrowed his eyebrows as she stopped talking. "You said Thanos had a gauntlet, right?" Rocket asked as he looked at a giant statue of a metal glove which he could only assume was the infamous infinity gauntlet.
"Yes. Why?" Thor and Ingrid walked over to him as they looked around, Ingrid looking at the ground as possible scenarios ran through her head. "Did it look anything like that?" The two Asgardians looked up with horrified faces as a perfect replica of the gauntlet stood in front of them. "I am Groot."
"Get back to the pod," Thor said before they all turned around and were faced with a giant dwarf who kicked Thor. Ingrid attempted to draw her sword before she was kicked away and collided with a pile of scrap metal. "Eitri, wait! Stop!"
"Thor?" Ingrid groaned as she sat up and listened to their conversation, her back would no doubt have bruising. "What happened here?"
"You were supposed to protect us. Asgard was supposed to protect us." The giant dwarf had a look of obvious hurt and anger. "Asgard is destroyed, no thanks to Hela," Ingrid told him as she stood up and walked towards the two who watched her. "Eitri, what did you do?" The dwarf stomped away from them before falling to the ground against a forging table.
"300 dwarfs lived on this ring. I thought if I did what he asked they'd be safe. I made what he wanted. A device capable of harnessing the power of the stones. And he killed everyone anyway. All except me. 'Your life is yours,' he said. 'But your hands. Your hands are mine alone.'" Ingrid glanced down at the hands of the dwarf which seemed to be bathed in solid metal.
"Eitri, this isn't about your hands. Every weapon you've ever designed, every axe, hammer, sword, it's all inside your head. Now I know it feels like all hope is lost. Trust me, I know. But together, you and I, we can kill Thanos." Thor's speech not only sparked hope in Eitri's heart but also in Ingrid, Groot, and Rocket who looked at the god with admiration. The four began walking through the forge when a mold was placed in front of them causing Ingrid to smile.
"This the plan? We'll hit him with a brick?" Rocket asked causing Ingrid to scoff and shake her head. "It's a mold," Ingrid told him, throwing her hand towards it before crossing her arms.
"A king's weapon. Meant to be the greatest in Asgard. In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost." This was the weapon they needed. The weapon that could get them where they needed to go and kill Thanos. "Does it have a name?"
"Storm Breaker." Ingrid nodded at the name, thinking it was such a badass name for an axe. "Yeah. It's a bit much." Rocket commented, finding the name a bit nauseating. "So how do we make it?"
"You'll have to restart the forge. Awaken the heart of the dying star." Eitri says in a dramatic fashion causing each of them to look at the other. "Rabbit, fire up the pod." Ingrid, Rocket, and Thor hopped on the pod, leaving Groot behind to play the video games that he never seemed to take his eyes off.
Thor jumped out of the pod without a second thought and without discussion causing Ingrid to shake her head at the man. "I don't think you get the scientifics here. These rings are gigantic. You wanna get them moving, you need something bigger to yank them loose!" Ingrid nodded along with Rocket seeing his point as valid, but she knew that he was a god and had amazing muscles.
"Leave that to me," Thor told Rocket causing him to scoff as Ingrid nodded, believing that he could probably pull the rings. "Leave it to you? Buddy, you're in space. All you got is a wrong plan..." "Rabbit, hold on," Ingrid shouted as she saw Thor get into a position where he was going to spin the two. Thor yanked the cord he held in his hands around him causing the two to spin in circles. They both screamed until Thor suddenly let go and yelled at the two.
"Fire the engines!" Rocket fired the engines and Ingrid watched as Thor dug his heels into one of the rings making the ship jolt backward. The ice that was holding it in place only shattered slightly causing Thor to yell up at the two
"More power, rabbit!" Rocket pushed the accelerators to full speed and only seconds late Nidavellir was reignited with amber streams of light coming from the dying star. Thor jumped onto the window of the pod with a huge grin on his face before pointing at the star.
"That's Nidavellir!" Ingrid and Rocket's face was filled with awe as they looked at the star with wide eyes. They all watched as a hot stream of light went into the rings, causing the forge to become reignited and for all of them to cheer. But the victory was shortlived as the iris closed, stopping the light. "Damn it," Eitri said, causing everyone to descend into a slow panic because if the dwarf says damn it, something must be very wrong.
"What's damn it?" Rocket asked, turning in his chair to look at Ingrid who simply shook her head. "The mechanism is crippled." Ingrid tried to process his words but came up empty. "What?" Thor shouted, still on the window before he climbed onto the top of the roof. "With the iris closed, I can't heat the metal."
"How long will it take to heat it?" Thor asked causing Ingrid to snap her head to the side, knowing that he was almost definitely going to come up with a plan that endangered himself. This seemed to be the way that he came up with all of the plans he had concocted. "A few minutes, maybe more. Why?"
"I'm gonna hold it open." Ingrid threw her hands up into the air before groaning. "Thor, why in every plan you have to endanger yourself? We can find another way." At this point, she had her head in her hands and was pacing in the small space in the ship. "There is no other way."
"That's suicide." Eitri backed her up causing Ingrid to click her fingers before remembering that they all weren't in the same room. "So is facing Thanos without that axe." Ingrid knew he was right, but she wanted to fight his decision so badly. Unfortunate for her, she knew that doing it would probably kill him but he was selfless and stubborn, qualities both of them share.
I literally just published this before realizing that I left out a whole scene fml. Also, I was just looking through all of the Thor fanfics and am now realizing that the queen that is Gal Gadot is an overused faceclaim for Thor so that's unfortunate.
Thanks, Queenie.
