Once upon a time in a land far, far away in a village there lived a little girl.
She had a big family with many siblings and her parents couldn't earn enough money for them all on their own. So the little girl had to work since childhood. She helped merchants with their goods, as there was always need for an extra pair of hands.
But every evening before she went to sleep she sat down at a nearby lake at the edge of a dark forest and told everything that happened during the day to the cold, mirror-like surface. So she sat there on this evening too, dusk fell and she told the lake once again about her poor live and how mean everyone, ecept her little sister, was to her. Then suddenly she heard a whispering sound and small waves started to show on the usually calm lake, but nothing else happened. When the waves had setteled the little girl went back to her unpleasent live.
On the next day things didnt go better. She was yelled at and beaten for dropping a cheap vase she couldnt replace. And once again she cried out her sorrows at the lake. This time it felt like something came through the high reeds, the water was moved again by even bigger waves. The little girl shivered, but stayed until everything setteled down.
The third day of wich she thought it couldnt get worse than the day before prooved her wrong. She got yelled at, beaten and not even payed. She would get in trouble at home too, for not bringing any money. So she cryed out her sorrows at the lake again. Like the day before she had the feeling to be watched, the lake threw huge waves on its bays, the trees moaned and cracked as if they went through terrible pain. Then the water started bubbeling and burst open, letting a huge black horse with reeds for its mane and pitch black eyes, as well as a fishs tail instead of back legs appear. The little girl was petrified by shock.
And the horse spoke:
"Come little lady,
come with me,
ride on my back,
leave behind your sorrows.
Come in my underwater palace,
come with me,
ride on my back,
leave your pain behind.
Come dont be scared,
come with me,
ride on my back,
leave your tears behind.
Come little lady,
this is your chance,
ride on my back,
leave behind your despair.
Come in my underwater palace,
for your sister is cared,
ride on my back..."

And silently, just whispering it added:
"...leave your memories behind."
The little girl approached the horse, a dreamy look on her face, dragging her feet like a sleepwalker and slowly touched its reed mane.
Then she smiled and said:" Yes, I'll come..." and climbed on its back. Immediatly the horse dove back into the lake and the waves were calm like before.
When you visit this town now, two years later, no one remembers this girl no matter how long you ask. But you can see a little house close to a lake with a man with reeds in his black hair, keeping watch over a small girl playing with the flowers blooming there beside the motionless lake.
