Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers were the best of friends in the early 1940s. They fought together during the second World War. That is when Steve thought he had lost his one and only best friend. Well, it turns out that Hydra had gotten hold of him, and they had turned him into a killing machine. He was known as the Winter Soldier. He fought against Cap while Cap tried to take Hydra down, which he was able to do. Captain America would've died if Bucky had not dragged him out of the lake. Bucky was glad knowing that he had made the right decision. He could not have just let Steve Rogers die like that. It would have been a death that he did not deserve.

Bucky began to question who he really was. He kept getting so many flashbacks of all the memories he had shared with Steve. His brain was fighting to tell him who he really was. Something was going on and he needed an answer pronto. He decide the first place to go would be the Captain America exhibit at the nearby Smithsonian. Maybe he would be able to get most of the answers there, who knows? Well, it would be a start, so that's where he headed out first.

The place was completely crowded. Bucky watched as all the people around him gazed in awe of the exhibit. He began to walk around and stumbled upon a poster with a huge picture of him with his name on it. The plaque next to it said that his full name was James Buchannan Barnes and that he was Steve Rogers' best friend. His body was never found, so everyone had presumed he was dead. This gave Bucky a little bit of the answers he needed, but he was still not satisfied. The only person who would have all the answers was none other than Steve. He would be able to tell Bucky everything, and maybe he could win Steve back as his good old best friend again. It was kind of what he wanted now.

After weeks of endless searching, Bucky was able to finally find Steve. He was laying low in good old New Orleans, Louisiana. Bucky had always wanted to go thee back in the day, so, he was able to pull a few strings and was able to be on the next flight there out of Washington. The flight was kind of long, but it was a good flight. Bbucky slept for most of it though because he was tired from all the searching he had done. He had done some non-stop work just to find Cap, and he did. What would he do when he saw his old friend again? Would Steve even welcome him back with open arms again? Would it be able to be like the good old days again? As the plane descended, Bucky put all these thoughts away and began to figure out how he would find Steve. He had no money for a cab. He basically robbed the ticket for this flight online with the strings he pulled. He had to type into his Hyrda wits to do it, but it was worth it. He figured out that he would just have to walk from the airport and do a complete search of NOLA. He saw that the last time Captain America was spotted here was in the French Quarter so that would be the first place he'll go looking in.

The French Quarter was a crowded place but was very beautiful at the same time. It was a place filled with good people, a mixture of different cultures, and gave off a vibrant and steady flow of energy. Bucky walked down the streets in search of his good old friend. He finally found him sitting on a bench alone in Jackson Square. Bucky walked up behind him and gently tapped him on the shoulder.

"What do you want?" Captain asked. Captain spun around. "Who is-" His face fell in shock and he went completely silent. His facial features changed from shock to awe. "Bucky....is it really you?" Cap could not believe his eyes right now. It was as if he was seeing a ghost.

As Bucky continued to stare at him, more memories began to flash around in his head of all the good times they had together. Tears streamed down his face as he sat down and hugged his old best friend. Cap hugged him back, sensing that Bucky had changed since the last time they saw each other. It looked like he was not being controlled by Hyrda anymore.

"Yes, Steve, It's really me." Bucky gave him a warm smile, reassuring his dear friend that it really was him and not a prank.

"Do you remember everything? Do you remember Hydra making you attack me?" Steve looked a little worried. He wanted to know if Bucky was still okay or not. If not, he wouldn't know what to do.

"Yes, I do." Bucky answered. "I'm so sorry." Bucky shook his head as those painful memories came soaring back. He flinched from the thought of the,

"You were under their control, Bucky. There was nothing else you could do. I completely understand. With the help of some teammates, we were able to take them down." Cap was being honest with him. Bucky needed to know the complete truth.

"So I'm free now, right?" A glimmer of hope shone in his eyes. "Please tell me that I am free. Is that why they haven't come looking for me? I mean, I was sure that they would come for me...."

"Yes," Steve replied with a big smile. "You are free. Hhydra is no more like I have said. That is why they hvae not come looking for you, and they will never come looking again. You are safe. You can start a life now." Bucky sighed and hugged him once again. "We have a lot of catching up to do my friend."

""Why yes, yes we do." Bucky was starting to feel happy again. He finally had his best friend back and was starting to learn the truth about everything, He was also happy to know that he was no longer under the control of Hydra for sure anymore. Knowing that they were completely gone was a huge sense of relief to him. "So, how is the superhero life?" Bucky wanted to know everything that there was to know now. There were just so many questions that he wanted to ask, and there was so much time now.

"It's amazing, I am not gonna lie, but it does get pretty damn hard at times.  But, I love it with all my heart." Steve had a shine of happiness in his eyes when he spoke about how it felt like to be Captain America. It was his life. It was all he had besides his few friends.

"That's great! Got any girlfriends?" Bucky was quite curious. It was a question that he had blurted out.

"Nope! I am as single as they come. I don't ever really think about dating. I'm just too busy with my life. This is the longest break Ii have been able to have to myself." Steve loved being single, but at times he did feel lonely, but no woman could make him happy. Only a man could, and he hasn't found the right one yet.

"Oh, okay." Bucky kind of liked the fact that Steve was single.

As they walked along the Mississippi River, Bucky began to feel a shift in his feelings toward Cap. He was starting to have the same old attraction he used to have to him back in the 1940s. He had always had a crush on him.

"Steve..." he said. Cap looked at him.

        "Yeah?" Cap was puzzled now.

"There's something I need to tell you." Bucky started.

        "What's that?"

"I don't know how to say it, so I'm just going to show you." Bucky started shaking, he was nervous because he was going to go ahead and kiss him.

"Okay..." Steve was confused about what was going on, but he trusted Bucky a little bit.

        "Okay, here goes." Bucky replied.

Bucky leaned into Steve and kissed him gently on the lips. As Steve began to pull away, Bucky held on tighter. Bucky didn't want the kiss to end. They both felt a spark during the kiss. Old feelings had been ignited after a very long time, and it felt right.

Cap pulled out of the kiss, feeling a bit different now, as Bucky smiled at him. "I.....I don't know if I can do this. I'm sorry Bucky. You had been gone for so long and I...I had to..." And with those words, he walked away. He couldn't even finish the sentence now because he was so upset. Cap had a sad look on his face. A long time ago, he did love Bucky as more than a friend, but it wasn't right being gay back in their time. It was disgraced and looked down upon. They would have had nothing if they were outed in that time.

Bucky stood there speechless. He was trying his best to fight the oncoming tears. He had loved Steve since the very first time they met, And now, if he can't prove how right they are for each other, he would lose Steve all over again. He could not afford to lose Steve either, he would be all that Bucky had left. He IS all that Bucky had left. Bucky would have to run up to him and prove that to him. But what would Cap do with him? Would he really turn Bucky away?
