It was late at night but I didn't care. I couldn't sleep, I was thinking of how my first day of school would be like tomorrow. I couldn't say I wasn't nervous, but I wasn't used to this. I usually never got nervous but this town felt different and I couldn't figure out why.
Because of money issues my mom, my sister and I moved around quite a bit. I never knew my dad, apparently he left my mom as soon as he found out she was pregnant. Asshole. We adopted Dani when I was six years old. We found her in a foster home, she was treated badly so we took her in, she was only four at the time.
We were used to moving around a lot, but it was still hard. I was turning sixteen later this year and I wish I could settle down, be happy and maybe even make a couple friends..
At 3am I decide to go to my sister's room and sleep with her. Dani's my best friend, even thought we fight sometimes. That's just how sisters are.
I walk in as quielty as possible still tying to locate her bed. As clumsy as I am, I bump into a cardboard box. "Shitt!" I cringe. I forgot my sister was still unoboxing, as we only moved here a couple days ago. My sister is a light sleeper so because of my clumsiness she wakes up.
"Lou is that you?" she asks tiredly.
"Hi sorry Dani I-i couldn't sleep." I answer.
"It's okay" she yawns, "come on" patting the empty space next to her telling me to come by her side.
I walk up to her bed and slip into the covers. This became a routine to us. Because mom was always out working to pay for the rent and our necessities, she was never really around. Dani was more than a sister to me, she kind of replaces mom sometimes. Even though she is two years younger than me, I look up to her and she looks up to me. We need eachother, it's like it's always been.
"Goodnight" I think I heard her say because I was already drifting off to sleep.
