It was a late night on a Thursday. I laid awake in bed staring at the ceiling. I wondered if Pony and Johnny would ever come home. If we'd ever see them again.

"Gosh Johnny," I whispered to myself, "I sure wish you'd come home. I miss you JohnnyCakes. I just want to see you again." My eyes closed and I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up at 7:00 in the morning. I rolled myself out of bed and decided to take a shower before I started my second search for the boys. I didn't get far in my first search, since I woke up too late and after being outside for a while I got stung by a bee. Bees aren't very nice if you try and brush them away too many times.

The steam from the hot water fogged up the mirror in the small bathroom. After drying off I walked out of the bathroom and changed into a pair of torn up blue jeans, my black t-shirt, and my bomber jacket. I walked over to my nightstand and took a swig from my beer from last night. I was tired, but determined. I was ready to find my friends.

I really wanted to go and stay with Soda and Darry and the rest of the gang. But I didn't want to leave without finding them, or at least finding what's left of them.

I left Buck Merrill's and started walking along the train tracks. I figured I'd just follow the tracks up to Windrixville. I used to go up there with Chessie and Talyn for short getaway camping trips. That is, before mom and dad died.

I had been walking for a decent three or four hours before sitting down on the tracks. My feet were sore and my head hurt a lot. I realized then that I should have brought water and food.

After a long rest, I pulled a thick branch off of a surrounding tree to lean on while I walked, to take the weight off my feet. Just as I was standing up to continue my venture, the clouds above started to trickle down with rain. Windrixville wasn't far from here. So, I kept going. My feet burning as I walked, my chest aching as I breathed, my stomach growling wishing I had brought food along.

The rain was soothing. It was calming my nerves and relieving my tension. I had sat down and breathed again. I started to him along to a tune I didn't know I knew. After a while, I started to come up with a song. I guess it was fueled from the idea of running away from everything. I can't remember how it went, but I can remember that I liked it, and if I had some paper, I would've wrote down the lyrics.

The rain was starting to come down a little harder, but I kept walking. I wasn't going to let weather stop me. It was cold, and I couldn't feel my fingertips, but I still kept going.

It stopped raining, but then it got windy. Dust kicked up from the ground, blowing in my eyes and getting into my mouth. By the time I got to the opening site which leads to Jay Mountain, I'd look like I was a real farm girl. There wasn't much scenery to see, unless that was just me being blinded by dirt for a little while.

After the wind died down, I could finally see where I was. I was just barely reaching the stopping point to go up to Jay Mountain. I really hoped that I'd find them. I really wanted to. My watch batteries and gone out, but the last time it showed was 6:32 pm. I looked around me. It must have died a little bit ago, because it didn't look darker than 6:45 outside.

I reached the clearing, where I saw two older farmer men. I walked up, "Have either of you two seen two teenage boys?" I shouted over the sound over the oil well. "Well, are you lookin' for a short black haired boy and his brunette buddy playin' army?" The older man asked in reply. That had to have been them. "Yeah, I'm the general. They're supposed to report to base there." The older man pointed to his left, "Just over those hills. Jay Mountain. They should be there." I thanked him, and walked over to the hill. I reached the top, and looked out. It was much darker than before.

I saw the sun setting over the South side of Tulsa. It was gorgeous. I wondered if Ponyboy saw the sunset too. Since it was getting dark, I had decided to set up my camp. I found a bunch of dead leaves and laid them out, then put my blanket over the top of them. I set the pillow up at the top and used my jacket as an extra blanket. Hopefully this would get me through the night.
