Step 7

It was time for our breakdancing class again with Mr. Wesley. I didn't know how I would be able to face him because of what happened yesterday. After all, he was the one who suggested the dance battle between Lawrence and me. He was the one who made a huge deal about our petty little fight.

When Lucy and I walked inside the room, I mentally let out a sigh of relief when I found out that Mr. Wesley was not yet there. But even without Mr. Wesley, I attracted so much attention from the people inside the room.

"Damn those eyes," I hissed quietly, loud enough for only Lucy to hear. "I'm the talk of the school!"

"You need to get used to it. You're the top scholarship student after all,"

"With your brother blocking my superiority, being the talk of this elite school is not that fun at all," I bit my lower lip in dismay.

"Hey, Aria, I forgot to ask you something,"

"What is it?" I asked her.

"Did you study somewhere else before going here?"

"Nope," I answered quickly which was the truth. That answer somehow made Lucy confused. "Everybody in the crew is my batch mates and schoolmates. We went to the same school in high school,"

"And when did you graduate?" she asked. "I know that you're seventeen, so you graduated la—"

"Last year," I smiled at her. "We're fresh gradutes. It's obvious that this school wouldn't accept transfers without money. We actually planned to stop going to college since we lacked the money,"

"It's a really good thing that you guys managed to pass the scholarship exam. Especially you. All of you will receive allowances, right?"

"Yeah," I smiled. "Our family insurances are now covered and no need to work overnight just to earn some money. We're kind of living the dream, if you would say. I guess I could say that we did not dream to be famous, of course it crossed our minds, but our goal was to have a wonderful life, without poverty,"

"You may have a future as a writer or a poet, Flint," a familiar voice interrupted my serious conversation with Lucy. "Why not quit being a dancer and pursue in the writing category instead?"

Since he decided to call me by my last name, I decided to call him by his last name too. "Well, just to tell you, Luther, at least I expertise in other things, not just dancing. I'm not stuck-up like you," I flipped my hair and walked away from him.

Well, that should do it...for now.

Whilst listening to Mr. Wesley about his lecture, I caught a quick glance of Lawrence looking at me. Believe me or not, what I saw in his eyes was not hatred. It was something else that I couldn't quite put a finger on.

It was like he didn't hate me when he looked at me at that moment.

Of course, when he saw that I caught him looking, he immediately looked away.

What was that guy's problem?

Maybe he was having pity towards me. He overheard my conversation earlier with Lucy after all. It was a good thing that I didn't mention about my father being a mailman. I was proud of my father's work but I knew it would be a total laugh to others.

Not all people were kind.

After our class with Mr. Wesley, we all went out of the room. And as we reached the outside of the class room, Lucy and I saw someone we didn't want to see.

Julie.

Lawrence's so-called girlfriend.

"Look who it is," Lucy said through gritted teeth. "It's the queen bitch ballerina," I looked at Lucy, quite shocked. I didn't know that she had it in her. She looked all sweet but she was fierce when she was frustrated.

"Lucy, watch your mouth," Lawrence warned, but Lucy totally ignored him.

"Nice to meet you too, Lucy," Julie scowled then turned her attention to me. "Nice to meet you too, newbie,"

"Woah," I faked smiled. "I didn't know that the trash talks!" Lucy sneered at that. "And to top it all, it's spurting out sarcasm! Bad trash! Trash should just go to waste, isn't that right, Lucy?"

I didn't know why I blurted out trash in front of them. I just couldn't think of anything to compare to Julie. She was thin, was I to call her barbecue stick instead? Nah, she just might call me fat after that.

"Shut your mouths," anger was already radiating out of Lawrence's body. I didn't know how I could tell, I just figured it out.

"You shut your mouth," Lucy responded quite harshly to her brother, which also made Lawrence put in a shock. "I'm so ashamed to call you my brother whenever you're around her," she nudged at Julie's direction.

"Why can't you just accept her for me?" Lawrence asked his sister. Julie and I just made an eye contact, clearly not wanting to get in the middle of a sibling fight. Wow. For once, we agreed about something. Maybe this was going to be the last.

"Because she's not for you! You didn't choose her! You don't love her! You're not happy with her!" Lucy half-screamed, earning some attention from the people surrounding us. Good thing they acted like nothing was even happening. "Because of her, I can see how weak you are! It's like you're saying you don't have a choice! Everyone has a choice, you know that!"

"Bu—"

Lucy didn't even let her brother speak when she continued, "You're my role model and this is not something a role model should do! You should know better! You need to choose what you want," this time I held Lucy's arm.

"Let's go, Lucy," I whispered to her. "That's enough for today,"

"And you know what I hate about your so-called girlfriend the most?" Lawrence didn't answer Lucy's question so she took that as a cue to continue, "It's because she's using you. She doesn't love you. Why do I know?"

"What do you know?" Julie asked, quite nervous of what Lucy might say.

Lucy just looked at her brother. "Remember Chris, my ex-boyfriend who I just broke up with a month ago?" Lawrence nodded at this. "Julie was the reason why I broke up with him, even when you were together with her and I was still together with Chris, they were having a relationship behind our backs...even now. How'd I know? Confirmed it when I saw them kissing in the library just earlier in the morning today,"

"What?" Lawrence whispered and sweat was already pouring out of Julie's face, quite shocked of what she just heard.

Lucy had a boyfriend? Someone who cheated on her? That was insane.

"Now tell me, brother," Lucy smirked. "Why shouldn't I be angry at her, when we siblings got played by one of her games at the same time?"
