Chapter 5

Emiko P.O.V~

I slowly opened my eyes, staring up to a white ceiling. The presence here felt very odd. I carefully sat up and look around of my surroundings.

I wasn't in my house...... In fact, I'm not at home at all. I'm in a very different place...and it's terrifying.

I heard someone groaned. I looked from the corner of my eye. I see Zero sitting in the corner, asleep.

"Zero?" I called to him. He slowly opened his eyes. His eyes widened in surprise.

"Emiko!" He said as he stood up and rushed by my side.

"Where are we?" I asked while staring at everything.

"It doesn't matter," Zero answered, "Are you hurt? You feel any pain?" I shook my head.

"Where's Mom and Dad?" I asked. His expression changed from worry to pain.

"Zero?" I called to him, "Where's Mom and Dad?" Zero couldn't answer me. He stares at me with a hurtful expression.

"Where's Mom and Dad?" I asked again, "And Ichiru, where's Ichiru?" Zero pulled me close into an embrace.

His face hid in the crook of my neck. I suddenly felt something very warm and wet dripping down, hitting my expose skin. Zero is crying.....

Zero didn't have to say anything....it seems that his tears did the talking... It was true reality that it's just me and Zero all alone....that Mom, Dad and Ichiru...are gone....

I felt the tears building up in my eyes. I could help, but blink to make one tear drop fall from my face.

It's happening all over again....I've lost another family. And this time....I'm with someone to share the same pain with....

I clutch onto Zero's shirt tightly and just cried. Zero and I did nothing, but mourned for our loved ones.

As it seem like forever, our crying fits have subsided and pulled away from one another.

"How did it happened?" I asked through sniffles.

"That woman..." Zero answered, "She took everything from us..." I gasped as my eyes widened in shock.

It's all coming back to me....those red evil eyes.....those fangs....the smell....and blood....I remember there was so much blood....

Zero P.O.V~

"That woman," I answered, "She took everything from us..." I heard Emiko gasped.

She was shock to hear this. Suddenly, I could hear her whimpering. I looked at her and see Emiko holding herself as she was shaking and whimpering.

"Are you alright?" I asked as I held onto her. She had her head down, with strands of her bangs covering her eyes.

"I-I'm scared Z-Zero," she murmured, "I-I'm s-so scared...." I held her tighter.

"It's okay," I said, "it's going to be okay." Emiko couldn't stop shaking, so I continue to hold her.

"Hey," I called to her, "There's some very nice people here, who agreed to look after us, okay?" Emiko shook her head.

"It's gonna happen again," she stated, "They're going to get killed, like our family..." I held her closer.

"No it won't," I said, "Nothing like that is going to happen, I promise." I could hear sniffles, but she tries to quiet herself by hiding her face in my chest.

"I promise that'll protect you, okay?" I stated. Emiko slowly look up to me.

"P-Promise?" She asked while sniffling. I showed her a small smile.

"I promise." I stated. Emiko slowly showed a sad smile.

It seems whatever expression she has on her face....her smile is beautiful nonetheless...

"Why don't you get some rest," I stated, "I'll come by with some food later." Emiko nodded as she pulled away from me.

She slowly laid back down on her bed. I stood up and gently pulled the covers over her. Her smile faded as she closed her eyes. I so then was ready to exit the room.

"Zero?" Emiko called to me. I slowly turned around to look at her.

"Don't forget me, okay?" She said tiredly. I only smirked.

"I won't." I answered. I opened the door and exit the room.

I exit the room and sighed deeply. I couldn't...I couldn't tell her...

I slowly touched neck that is now covered with bandage that I hid from Emiko.

Damn her! Damn that woman! She took everything from us!.....I'll never forgive that woman...I'll kill that vampire...whatever it takes...

"Zero?" Someone called to me. She has very long brown hair and brown eyes to match. She's the headmaster's daughter, Yuki.

"Is she alright?" Yuki asked, referring to Emiko. I grunted.

"She's fine," I answered rudely, "She's asleep, so don't wake her." I walked past Yuki and left her alone.

As soon as I turned the corner, I felt my throat burning up again. I choked while feeling the pain raising in my heart.

I breathe heavily, clutching my chest. I can't control myself... It hurts too much.

"Zero." I heard someone called for me. I looked and it was the Headmaster, looking at me with pity.

"I can help you Zero," he stated, "Please, allow me to do so."

Emiko P.O.V~

It's been four years since the tragic accident. I met the Kaien Cross and his daughter, Yuki Cross.

They were incredibly nice people, but it took time for me to open up to them a bit. As time went by, Zero and I became a bit distant.

He was slowly changing to someone that I don't even know anymore. It was times when I try to make him open up, but he only pushes me....pushing to the point where I gave up.

We never talked much. I admit, we made small talk, but nothing compared to what we talk about when we were little.

Also....I stopped training as a vampire hunter. I never saw Sensei and Zero usually gives me some pointers of weaponry and vampires when attacking, but nothing that I learned already.

Basically, we were strangers. The Zero I grew up with, trained with, and shared things with just disappeared. Soon enough, Zero, Yuki, and I attended an academy known as Cross Academy.

Students came in and so did others...others who are completely different from the rest of us...vampires.

That took time to adjust. Considering Zero's hatred and my bit of fear of them....on second thought, it won't adjust at all. We just understood the fact that they're here to stay.

I suddenly knew, with these completely new changes of my life.... My new life starts....all over again.
