"it's been a week since you left school." anne said while getting into bed, " it's different without you."
I smiled, " what are you trying to imply?" I walked over to the window to close it slightly and then walked over to my bed which was just a three foot away from anne's. and got into the comfy blanket.
anne made herself comfy under the cover and blew out the candle. " come back to school anna."
"i will come back when i want to." i said blowing out my candle too. leaving the room dark, and slowly becoming brighter as my eyes started to get used to the darkness. "Go and sleep anne."
—
Loud bells could be heard which brought me out of my sleep. the window scenery which was dark now filled with smoke and a small light. i quickly got out of the bed — hissing when i exposed myself to the cold air — and rushed to the window, thick black smoke was coming out from a house miles away, the house looked like a fireplace.
And then it hit me, we have to help them put out the fire. I ran to Anne and shook her up. once she was awake, I explained to her what was going on and called for Marilla which then ordered both of us to take all of the buckets we owned and put into the carriage. Once we were done, we quickly hopped on and rode to the burning house.
We got there in four minutes, when we stopped near the house, Marilla said that it was the Gillis's house. "Poor ruby." Anne whispered with pity while all three of us stare into the big flame that was getting bigger and bigger by second.
We quickly got down and hand the bucket to the those that were trying to put out the fire. "Anna! Anne!" A familiar voice called our name, and when me and Anne turned to the direction the voice was coming from Diana was running towards us and it ended in a group hug. "I missed you Anna! and Anne I'm glad you're okay."
Just then, a window busted open by the flame in the house. Two boys carrying a long ladder quickly run to it and set the ladder upright and someone started climbing to the top. He was wearing the same exact red checkered coat where I last saw him, Gilbert.
I was worried for a second, what if he burned himself? But I shook it away as soon as Anne nudged me. I turn to see her terrified face, "Why are the doors and windows open?" I looked closer and it came to me.
"Fire needs oxygen." I said to myself. As Anne started to charge to get cloths to be wet, and I did the same. I took Anne's cloths and run in, but Anne stopped me indicating she can go, "Anne, you have much more in your life. And besides, I'm faster." I yanked her hand off mine and ran into the house.
Once I was in the house, smoke filled my vision. But I quickly ran up to the second level and closed every window I can close and doors. Once I closed the doors, I put the cloth right below so it deprives the air. I got into another room - coughing hysterically - which revealed Gilbert right outside of the window. "Anna!" I looked at his dark brown eyes and closed the door and did the same exact steps I did for the other rooms.
I got down the stairs as soon as I could but my eyes was slowly closing, and I was losing energy. I closed every window I could on the first floor afterwards I attempted to walk out of the same door I got in with. But I collapsed half way through, I suddenly didn't have the will to live anymore. But I have too, for Anne, for the cuthberts. I gathered all my strength and crawled to the exit.
