Dean's car was a lot fancier than what Seth had expected, either he was wealthier than people knew or he just worked hard to give himself nice things. Judging from his scruffy appearance (which was the same practically every day) Seth concluded that it must've been the second reason, something he had experienced himself.
"Your car is nice" Seth complimented as he slid into the passenger's seat.
"Thanks" Dean replied and started the car. "You like cafe food?" He asked.
"Oh I'm not hungry," Seth said, this wasn't the whole truth but Dean didn't need to know that Seth was tight on money, besides he wasn't starving or anything.
"I'm buying" Dean offered and Seth just shook his head.
"I'm okay, really. Thanks though"
"Tis' alright, I'll just get you a coffee or somethin'" Seth opened his mouth to protest but decided against it, he could probably do with a coffee.
The two fell into a silence that wasn't exactly comfortable but wasn't uncomfortable either. Perhaps it was comfortable for Dean but it was more uncomfortable for Seth. He just felt uneasy around Dean. He didn't want to be one of those people who believe any piece of gossip they hear but it was kind of hard not to believe the rumours about Dean. Dean didn't seem to be paying any attention to Seth though as he kept his eyes glued to the road, humming a tune.
Seth couldn't believe he was actually doing this. He'd never done anything remotely bad before and then he talks to Dean for about five minutes and he convinced Seth to skip school. Seth's excitement was soon replaced by panic. What would his mom say if she found out? What would his friends say? He closed his eyes and silently counted to ten, something he always did when he felt uneasy. He finally managed to compose himself again and opened his eyes, to see Dean's blue ones on him.
"Are you okay?" Dean asked. Seth bit his lip, oh great. Dean had seen him and now he probably thought he was a complete freak. Good one Seth.
"Yeah, it's just a habit," Seth mumbled. "Sorry"
Dean shrugged. "Don't apologise man." He turned his attention back to the road. "You don't have to be scared of me, believe it or not, but I don't actually bite." Dean chuckled dryly and Seth looked down out of embarrassment.
"Huh?" Was all Seth managed to choke out.
"I know you're afraid of me. You don't have to be, I'm not going to kill you or anything."
"That sounds like something a killer would say" Seth joked in an attempt to lighten the mood. Dean smiled and pulled into the car park of a diner that Seth didn't recognise.
"You got me" He paused for a moment. "Seth honestly I'm not as bad as people say, look at me"
For some strange reason, Seth followed Dean's instructions and looked into his eyes. They were really nice.
"What do you see? Don't believe the lies you heard about me" He muttered and Seth chuckled.
"Sleeping with Sirens?" Seth smirked at his reference. Dean looked like he wanted to smile too but he didn't, showing that he was serious. Seth didn't realise how much the rumours affected Dean.
As Seth examined Dean, he saw that the rumours were exactly that. Rumours. Dean didn't really look intimidating at all, Seth felt guilty for believing the lies.
"No, I don't. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have even thought about that you do seem alright." He finished. "How did you know I was feeling like that?"
Dean opened the car door on his side and Seth did the same. "It's okay, if we're going to do this project then we should do it right and I don't want you to believe anything that's wrong about me is all." Dean and Seth began to walk to the front of the cafe. "And I could tell by your body language, I'm not silly, I'm also extremely good at reading others"
