McKayla's POV:

"Thank you for shopping at Whit and Kay's, have a wondering day." I smiled at the customer as they walked out with a bag in their hands. "Whit, where are those new arrivals?" I asked.

"I'm the dressing room whenever your ready." She replies. I walked back to the dressing room and tried on some of the new arrivals for our social media pages.

@whitandkayshop: new exclusive summer arrivals are here at the shop! Come by while there still on the racks!

I clean up the dressing room and walked out hanging up the clothes on an empty rack.

"Here and ready to buy," Lennox announced walking through the door.

"I thought you were kidding." I chuckled seeing Lennox walking through the front door.

"I never kid about Whit and Kay's clothes. Plus I was just across the street." Lennox grins sorting through the new arrivals.

"Shop away." I laughed walking up the front counter. I looked at the clock and realized my shift was over. "Alright, I gotta get going to the BMS. I'll see you later Whit, bye Lennox." I waved walking out to my car. As I pulled out of the parking lot my phone began to ring.

"Hello?" I answered without glancing at the contact.

"Sweetheart, I just got a call from Chase." Ryan's voice trails off leaving me with an uneasy feeling. "You need to hurry to the hospital." He hesitates to add.

"Why? What happened?" I reluctantly asked. I could practically hear Ryan struggling to find the words to say whatever is that was going on. "Ryan? Tell me please." I begged taking a u-turn to the hospital.

"McKayla, it's your dad." He finally responds. My heart instantly dropped. I lost my train of thought for what seemed like forever. "You there?"

"Yeah." I forced out.

"Chase is already there. I'm on my way, I'll be there soon."

"Yeah okay, see you there." I quickly hang up before I could break down. "Come on!" I yelled pounding my fist on the steering wheel. The light remained red forever making my patience grow thinner and thinner.

Finally, I made it to the hospital. I ran inside to the front desk where I was greeted by an older lady. I gave my dad's name to her and she directed me to his room. I start running down the hall where I ran into Chase and my mom. The expressions shown on their faces told me everything that I needed to know. Something was extremely wrong.

"What happened? Where's dad?"

"He's in his room sweetie the doctors are working on him," Mom explains then looks over at Chase. Chase grabs ahold of my hand and walks me away to an empty waiting room.

"I'm the cause of this." He blurts.

"What?"

"I went over to talk to dad. I wanted to make amends, I was tired of always fighting with him. He all of a sudden turned it personal, brought up Hannah and Ryan's addiction and I lost it. I yelled at him and he started clenching his chest and then he passed out-"

Ever since mom and dad divorced, Chase and dad's relationship hadn't been the same. I will admit dad did a lot of bad things to mom but I forgave him, but Chase? Well, not so much. He and dad still didn't see eye to eye many years later.

"Chase you didn't know this was going to happen. This isn't your fault." I say.

"This wouldn't have happened if I never did go over there in the first place." He continues.

"Chase stop-"

"I could be the reason why our dad dies?"

"Chase stop it." I raised my voice and grabbed his arm, finally catching his attention. "You had no idea that any of this would happen. No matter what happens to dad this isn't your fault."

"Kids, come here," Mom says peaking her through the large entryway. Chase and I quickly glanced at each other. We followed mom back to the front of dad's room. A doctor slips out and gives us an apologetic smile, that type of smile was never good.

"We've made him as comfortable as possible. It's only a matter of time." The doctor says. "You may go in and see him, but one at a time please."

"McKayla, sweetie, why don't you go first." Mom weakly smiles. I take a deep breath before entering dad's room. I pulled up a chair next to my dad's bedside. His eyes were closed, he looked peaceful.

"Hey dad," I say putting my hand on top of his. I didn't really know what to say. There was nothing much to say, but goodbye. "I'm sorry dad, for everything. I know I wasn't the perfect daughter. And I just wanna let you know Chase is sorry. He's really sorry. I love you, dad." I stand up from my seat and walked outside. I didn't wanna take long because who knew how much time we had, and I know Chase wanted to talk to him.

"Hey sweetheart," Ryan says walking up. "How is he?" He asks before engulfing me in a hug.

"Not good," I say into his chest. "He doesn't have much time," I add. Chase stays in there a few minutes longer than I did before a doctor and nurse ran in. Chase comes walking out. His eyes were red, his cheeks stained with tears. We all stand in the hallway in the dark about what was happening to dad.

The doctor came walking out with a very apologetic look on his face once again.

"I'm sorry, he's gone."
