Two Years Earlier
Dad always played a big role in my life, he was my mentor, my hero, my guide, and my best friend...when he's not being an arrogant ass.
"Malia! You've asked me a hundred times and the answer's still no. High school's too open of a place, I don't want anyone to find out your identity, or worse hurt you. And why would you want to go to public school when you have the best teacher in the world, Friday." Tony snapped.
"But Dad I'm fifteen, I can handle myself in the real world without you or any other avenger watching my back 24/7. Kids my age aren't smart enough to find out that I'm Tony Stark's daughter. Have you seen what the new horrid trends are? And no offence, but Friday isn't the friendliest of teachers. Plus you owe me for not ratting you out for stealing Thor's last muffin. I had to bake him a whole other dozen just so he wouldn't bring "wrath upon the culprit," and murder us all," I plead to my father.
"Shhh...he might hear you. And I guess if we change your last name and maybe buy a house nearby the closest high school, you can start tomorrow. Just promise me you won't join these new "horrid" trends and to stay safe. You're all I have other than the other Avengers, and I couldn't bear to lose my only daughter."
"I promise Dad. Don't worry I'll still always be your little girl, no matter what." I assured and pulled him in for a hug.
Next Morning
My first day of real school. High school. I woke up with a smile on my face as I got ready quickly and went down for breakfast. "Hey Cap, whatcha cookin' today?"
"Just some pancakes, a little birdy told me that your Dad finally came around about you going to school today and I wanted to make you something to eat." He said while flipping a pancake onto my plate.
"Aw, thanks Cap!" I looked down to see a burnt disk.
"Well go ahead and try it! I made it with a recipe passed down in my family." Captain America exclaimed with a joyous look.
"Mmm, so good. I'll take it to go, I don't want to be late on my first day." I stuffed the bitter biscuit in a small Ziplock and ran out the door, tossing it in the bin on the way out. "Sorry Cap, better stick to fighting criminals." I ended up walking to school with the extra time from breakfast this morning.
At School
I walked into the place where I was going to spend the next four years of my life. I took a deep breath in and headed to my first class. I looked around to find two empty seats to a quirky blonde. I quickly walked over to one trying to avoid the stares of everyone. "Hi, can I sit here?" I asked.
"Sure, I'm Gwen, Gwen Stacy," she introduced.
"I'm Malia St- I mean uh Avans. I'm new here if you couldn't already tell. So do you always sit with no one next to you?" I asked her.
"Nice to meet you, Malia uh Avans, and consider me as your first official friend. And usually Peter sits next to me, but the one your in's always empty. I like the backpack space," she replied with a friendly smile.
The bell rang and inside ran a boy who looked like he just ran a marathon. "Sorry Mr. Harrington, I woke up late, then I slipped an fell on the way to my kitchen and then forgot to get breakfast, then Aunt May's car broke down and I had to run all the way here when I saw a little kitten stuck in a tree and I couldn't just leave the little kitten there and-,"
"Mr. Parker, please just go sit down, you're distracting my class."
"Yes sir, sorry about that I ramble when I'm nervous and...I'll go sit now before I start again."
I looked over at the boy who just sat down next to me. He had an unusual pull that made me want to get to know him better. The bell rang and I looked back at the boy named Peter and wondered if I should say something when Gwen pulled me over.
"Hey let me see your schedule, I can see if we have classes together, " she said as she snatched my schedule out of my hands to compare with her own. "I guess I'll see you next at lunch and 2 more periods, but sadly we don't have 2nd period together. Peter can take you if you want," she replied.
"Uh sure," I replied to her. I turned over to Peter and introduced myself and walked to my next class.
"S-s-so Malia, w-why'd you join Midtown High in the middle of the year? We don't get many new students." He asked.
"Do you always stutter Peter? And I was homeschooled for most of my life, you know strict dad and stuff," I told him.
"Only till I get to know you well. And I know what you mean Aunt May freaks out when I disappear for like two seconds."
The rest of my day was a breeze. I could tell that I was going to enjoy high school and have fun with my new friends that Gwen introduced me to throughout the day, Peter, a guy named Ned, a quiet but sarcastic girl named Michelle, a tall boy named Harry, and a sassy red-head named Mary Jane.
