I woke at about 5.30am to find Quinn had climbed in bed with me sometime during the night and wriggled forward so I could wrap my arm over her, while trying not to wake her. And promptly fell back to sleep.

When I woke again, it was almost 8 and Quinn was still snoring softly, one hand gripping her teddy and the other holding tightly to my finger. I gently pried myself free and crept to my ensuite, closing the door behind me. Today was going to be a good day, I decided after my mini breakdown last night. I was so embarrassed. I'd really been looking forward to it too, then I go and get a stupid teenage crush on some toddler restaurant owner and ruin my own fun as well as Nikki's and probably his too. Well I won't be going back there for a while, how awkward. After I showered, dressed and did all the other usual morning girly things, I went out to the kitchen to whip up an apology breakfast for Nikki.

French toast, bacon and my family's traditional hot chocolate were on the menu today for sure. As I was finishing up everything and contemplating how to get both my girls awake short of setting off the smoke alarm, I heard a quiet, "Mama?" coming from my room. I headed back to my room and saw Quinn all sleepy eyed and hanging onto her teddy again, she'd even put her slippers on.

"Good morning sleepy head, when did you sneak in my bed last night?" I scooped her up into a cuddle and kissed the tip of her nose.

Quinn giggled, "Mama, I had a bad dream again. Where did you go?" I was being scolded by a three-and-a-half-year-old for getting out of my own bed. Pretty sure all would be forgiven and forgotten as soon as she saw breaky though. I carried her down the hall to the kitchen and sat her up at the bench, "Bacon!" she exclaimed, and teddy was dropped to the floor. I was forgiven. One down, one to go.

"Did I hear there's bacon?" Nikki walking in somehow looking like a model for Peter Alexander.

"Yep, there's bacon and french toast aaand..." I turned to the stove picked up the pot and turned back, "Hot chocolate. Pass me those mugs, would you?" Nikki's eyes perked up as she stuffed the bacon she'd been nibbling in her mouth to pass me the mugs, so I could pour their drinks.

"Wuh uh we ooing ooay?" Nikki tried to say while stuffing in more bacon, making Quinn laugh so hard that she snorted.

"Well, oh my God Nikki," trying to talk through my laughter, "Well I was thinking we could bake some cookies this morning then make some sandwiches and have a picnic in the backyard for lunch."

"Cookies!" Quinn threw her arms up in the air in excitement, so I took the opportunity to pick her up from the bench and sit her in her chair at the table.

"Or we could actually leave the house, for a change," Nikki muttered under her breath obviously loudly enough for it to be a dig, "And take this picnic party to the park? Playground, sun, fresh air, sounds way more fun than the backyard, hey Quinny?"
