Scarlett

I heard the roar of the motorbike pull into the driveway a bit after 4.30 in the morning. It sat idling for about 10 minutes before I got out of bed to peek through the curtain in time to see Nikki and Ryan in the middle of a very steamy kiss. I let the curtains drop back and went to the bathroom since I was now wide awake and busting to pee. After I'd climbed back into bed and started to read my book I checked the time again, 5.15am. Well as least the motorbike hadn't woken Quinn up, or Dean, who was asleep on the couch. But I still hadn't heard Nikki come in yet. I flicked off my bedside lamp and snuck back to the window.

They're still making out, seriously? He could have at least gotten off his bike and walked her to the door. Instead, Ryan's straddling his bike with his feet on the ground, while Nikki is pressed up against him practically getting her face sucked off.

I thought about going to the front door and flicking the veranda lights off and on like my mum used to do when Andy and I first started dating back in high school, but Nikki would kill me. Instead I went to the kitchen to make a cuppa to take back to bed while I read.

Just as I switched on the kettle, I heard the loud engine of the motorbike take off down our street and Nikki's keys in the door. At least she wasn't bringing him inside, not sure I'm ready for there to be 'sleepovers' in my house just yet.

I could hear Nikki trying to be quiet, but she'd obviously had a few drinks and I silently laughed to myself when she shushed her shoes as she plopped them on the floor. I peered around the corner from the kitchen to the front door and watched her tip-toe down the hall, stopping at the lounge and smiling. I went back to making my tea as she came into the kitchen, almost flinging her clutch and keys in the air when she saw me by the glow of the open fridge door.

"Jesus Christ, Scarlett! You scared the shit out of me! Why are you even up?" she whispered angrily.

"Sorry," I tried to conceal my laughter, "but I was woken up by a very loud motorbike in my driveway at after 4.30 on a Sunday morning, and it's not my fault you stayed out there making out on the damn bike for nearly 45 minutes. Do you want a cuppa before you go to bed? I'm just making one." I ask as the kettle whistled. Nikki shook her head.

"Nope, I'm good. I don't wanna go to bed though, can't I go ride Ryan, I mean..." Nikki dissolved into giggle. Yep completely hammered, "Can't I go ride his bike? It was sooo much fun Letty. And the bar is so pretty. I think I'm gonna buy him, b-buy in on it. Then I won't have to sponge off you anymore." She drunkenly kissed me on the cheek, turned and stumbled to her room, saluting me at the door before tripping in, closing the door behind her.

Oh god, well today's going to be fun. I got a small bucket out from the cupboard under the kitchen sink and a bottle of water from the fridge. As I turned to take them to Nikki's room, I bumped straight into Dean, dropping the bottle of water on the floor.

"What are you doing up, go back to sleep." I told him, picking up the bottle.

"Bloody bike woke me up. She's off her fucking face, isn't she? So what state was he in and he's driving her round on a bike at all hours of the morning." Fury and hurt flashed in his eyes and I understood how much my brother really cared for my best friend.
