Asteria stood under the stands by the quidditch pitch. She really was hoping everything had gone according to plan. Gently, she tucked her wand into the pocket of her robes and waited.A few moments later, her plan flawlessly unraveled.
Regulus Black strode out into the centre of the pitch, his hair slicked back and his broom gripped tightly under his arms. Turning around, the boy had furrowed eyebrows and a look of confusion plastered on his face. He was under the impression there was quidditch practice that morning.
This, however, was all a ruse. Then Asteria moved out of the shadows, making her way cautiously towards Regulus who stood in the middle of the grounds.
"What's going on? Where is everyone and why aren't you in your gear?" Regulus frowned, stepping backwards sceptically.
Asteria explained, "There isn't any practice today."
"You cancelled? I could have done with knowing that a bit earlier."She folded her arms, causing the boy to suddenly become aware that perhaps this wasn't just a cancelled quidditch practice. Regulus narrowed his eyes suspiciously, taking another cautious step backwards.
"Before the holidays, do you remember the match we played against Gryffindor?" Asteria asked.
Regulus instantly knew where this was headed, "Not really, no.""Regulus." Asteria raised a knowing eyebrow. She was in desperate need of the information he was withholding and would do anything to put her and the Marauders at ease. They needed to know what the Death Eater's plan was so they could put a stop to it.
Before the Christmas holidays, Regulus had warned James that something dark would be unfolding in Hogwarts in the new year. Regulus had warned him not to return but that didn't quite go to plan. The Marauders were under the impression that Regulus had threatened them and they were back, more stubborn than ever to confront the secret Death Eaters amongst the students.
He hadn't threatened James though. Regulus was still trying his best to protect his brother without getting himself in too much trouble. He let out a long sigh, rubbing the bridge of his nose, "I know what I said to Potter. Why do you care?"
"The threat you made against James. Except it wasn't a threat, was it? What did you mean, saying it isn't safe to come back to Hogwarts?" Asteria pushed.
"Alright, fine." Regulus glanced around the stand. He adjusted the hold on his broom and gripped Asteria's upper arm, guiding her under the shelter of the stands where they couldn't possibly be spied on. "You can't breath a word of what I'm about to say to anyone. If this gets out we could all be in danger." He warned.
"Danger? I don't understand." Asteria frowned.
"What don't you understand about the word danger?" Regulus rolled his eyes.
"Don't be an idiot. God, you are like Sirius sometimes. I mean, why would anyone be in danger? James said... What was it? Something about... I can't remember what they're called now..." She trailed off in thought.
Regulus knew exactly what she was thinking, "Death Eaters."
