I remember when Margaret and Alex died. I remember every little detail that night. Every moment of that horrid night. Everything but who killed the only "family" I ever had. I was only 15, sitting in the small room I had, reading. Enjoying the time I had free from training. Then there was a knock. A small simple rap rap rap against my door. The knock that caused the killer to have his moment to break in. To ruin my life.
"Victoria, Margaret and I have been discussing and we decided that its time for you to get your fake birth certificate. Fake name fake everything." Alex says, a small smile on his face as he hands it to me.
"Wait? Does.. Does this mean I can finally go out?" I ask. Alex opens his mouth to respond but a piercing scream interrupts his words. Margaret's scream. He points to the window. We knew this day would come. When the prison I was held in would find us. But we didn't expect it so soon. He points to my window, the one with my bag places next to it before he leaves the room quickly. Facing death as I hear the gunshot outside my door."Alexis! Wake up. Were at the hotel." A voice says to me, waking me from my dream. I open my eyes and blink rapidly, allowing my eyes to adjust to the lighting outside. I look around, seeing a new setting and area completely. We're no longer in New York. I grab my bag and step out if the car, welcoming the fresh air. Calum gets out and locks the car doors.
"You should probably leave your bag, or at least the gun."
"You're out of your mind." I say, shaking my head and walking towards the door. He lets out a low chuckle before following me.
"You have no idea just how out of my mind I am." I roll my eyes at his comment and approach the front desk.
"How can I help you?" The man at the desk questions, glancing between Calum and I.
"We'd like to get an overnight room please." Calum says, pulling his wallet out from his pocket.
"One bed or two?" He questions.
"Two!" Calum and I both answer quickly, chuckling awkwardly afterwards.
"Alright that will be $20.77. There's also a complimentary breakfast from 6 am to 10." He informs us, taking the money as Calum pays. I head towards the elevator with Calum following along. I press the 2nd floor button and wait for the elevator doors to open. Once we step in I turn to him, leaning against the rail.
"So, where are we?" I ask, checking the time on my watch.
"We're about to be in Ohio, were maybe 40 miles from the border."
"Holy shit." I say. "We drove across Pennsylvania that fast?"
"You sleep hard." He says, chuckling and stepping out of the elevator as the doors open. I follow him, chuckling softly at his statement. He walks to the room and opens the door, holding it open as I walk in. I set my bag on one of the beds and sit on the end.
"Is it weird that I slept that long and I'm still tired?"
"No. That malfunction stuff I gave you causes machines like you to get tired."
"Please don't call me a machine." I mumble, laying back against the bed.
"So, you really never realized?" Calum asks sitting on his bed. I shake my head.
"No..." I say, sitting up and pulling the wig off, setting it on a table, allowing my long black hair to fall to their curly position on my shoulders.
"I'm sorry. I guess I shouldn't have told you." He sighs, looking at the wall by the door.
"I guess I'm glad you did but.. I'm just so confused." Calum sighs and stands up, walking towards me before kneeling in front of me on the floor.
"Of course you're confused. I just told you you're.. Not real. That's life changing." He says. I sigh and lean back on the bed. He stands and frowns slightly. "We need to sleep and I'll explain more tomorrow okay?" I shrug and roll over, burying my face in my pillow and letting out a small sigh. I'll never forget the dream I had that night.
