The bright sun shines through the curtains, raising the heat of my body as I squeeze my eyes tighter, attempting to block out the light. I roll over and look at the clock the motel has placed among the night stand. 7:07. I sigh and sit up rubbing my eyes, blinking as I look around the cheap motel room, noting the door to my left, presumably the bathroom, and the littering of garbage by the window. Cheap indeed. I look towards Calum's bed and quickly stand, realizing hes not there.  I walk to the bathroom and gently knock on the door. There's no answer.
"Calum?" I ask, knocking slightly harsher. Once I realize he's not here I look towards my window. I slowly walk towards it and open it, peering out over the hundreds of people on the street. Since Calum told me the truth I'm having a hard time gripping things. How did I never notice? I lean against the windowsill and sigh taking in the new scenery. As I watch the people below I hear the hotel room open.
"I got breakfast!" Calum says cheerfully, "I figured it'd make all that we have to talk about easier to process." I turn away from the window and look at him, his hair ruffled and and the plates in his hands overflowing with food. I grab the plates from him and set them on the bedside table, turning back to him.
"Why are you helping me?" I ask. He sighs and walks to his bed, taking a seat and patting the spot next to him. I sit across from him and cross my legs, picking up one of the plates and setting it on my lap.
"I've been assigned to watch you for a while now." He says, picking a grape off of my plate. "My father sent me to find you and bring you back. He said you're almost ready. But somethings changed."
"Ready? What do you mean?"
"A few days ago, when I told you the truth. I said you're a weapon. I don't understand how my father created you, you have human qualities, thoughts, emotions, habits, all of that. But at the same time you are an amazing creation. You have skills that he implanted in you that no other person has had."
"Like seeing into peoples minds?"
"Precisely. That and more. My father was working on how to enable these actions, how to use you as a weapon. You escaped before he could." Calum says looking me over. "He realized a few years later that these skills develop over time."
"And the weapon part of me is supposed to develop soon?"
"That's his assumption."
"Wait but I can only read into peoples secrets and past? You said skills."
"When my father created you he wanted you to be the ultimate weapon. He put multiple mods in you. They have to be activated. You can see into peoples minds because that's activated by touch."
"So if I want to use the skill I have to find a way to enable it?"
"Exactly. He never told me what all he implanted. Just that with them all combined he'd have power. Once these skills develop, enabling them is a new step. When do you first recall seeing into peoples minds?" I pick up my bagel, taking a bite while I think back.
"I think I was 8. Marg- um a friend and I were getting food and while we were walking, I tripped. She grabbed my hand to help me up and I saw her as a teen, sneaking into a casino." I chuckle at the memory, "I was shocked of course, and I pulled my hand away. When I told her what happened we started testing it out." I say. He nods and picks his plate up. "I still haven't mastered it. I don't like it."
"It takes time. I want to help you activate these. All of them."
"Why?"
"My father, he's not a good man.. He's hurt a lot of innocent people. I'm putting an end to it, with your help."
"Now wait a minute, I escaped your father's torture 12 years ago, why the hell would I make the decision to go after him??"
"Isn't that what Alex and Margaret were training you to do?"
"How did you-"
"Look, Alexis, I worked with my father's for the last 12 years. It took 8 of those to realize he's an evil man. I have to stop him. Before he uses you as his weapon."
"But how?"
"With all your skills you're powerful, you can beat him." I look at him before setting my plate on the desk and standing.
"Look you're fucking crazy, you think I'm gonna go to the place i was held hostage for 7 years and fight the man who put me there? No thanks." I start walking towards the door. Calum quickly stands and runs after me, grabbing my wrist.
"I wouldn't be asking for help if I didn't think you could do it. Victoria I've been watching you."
I pull my wrist from his trip.
"Dont call me Victoria. Calum I just don't know. This is scary. I've been hiding from him for 12 years.. What if this fails?"
"If we train and plan this correctly, it won't. I can't do this without you." He says this, looking into my eyes. Fuck, I'm gonna regret this.
"Fine. I'll help."
