School was boring as hell.
After he drove me to school in the morning, I hadn't seen Ashton the whole day. I mean, I've seen him passing by in the halls, but he never actually came to talk to me or something. Which was weird, but I didn't read too much into it. I just came to a conclusion that he's too tired, because the last night probably wasn't the best for him since he had to take care of my drunken self. I indeed felt sorry for that and I intended to make it up to him somehow. I thought, maybe invite him to mines later and make his favorite food, spaghetti, of course.
But since he's basically been ignoring me the whole day, that seems kinda harder. So, at the end of the last period, I went seeking for him. And finally found him in the parking lot, standing by his pickup with a phone in his hands.
At first, I went unnoticed. But when he sensed my presence, his hazel eyes went up, only to meet the worried gaze of my green ones.
''Hazel. '' he acknowledged, reverting his attention back to the device in his hands. I sighed, snapping my fingers to get him to look at me again. And he did, looking rather impatient. ''Yes?''
I narrowed my eyes at the brown-haired boy, resting my hands on my hips in an angered manner. But I wasn't angry, I was just beyond confused and annoyed. What is wrong with him?
''Speak, Ashton. '' I demanded, tapping my foot on the asphalt of the lot.
Ashton seemed unfazed though. He had a bored expression masking his face, eyes glaring dully at me. I suddenly felt a cold shiver run down my spine, my brain giving me warnings. I understood nothing.
''Look Hazel, what's up, I'm kind of busy, so...'' he said carelessly, pretending to be deeply into his phone. I saw right through him, but didn't know what reaction to give. I wondered what is wrong with him, why is he behaving this way?
''Is it something I've done?'' I questioned, getting a raised eyebrow from him. ''Are you mad at me, Ashton? What have I done?'' I was desperate. My best friend was off and that worried me, I didn't want to be a cause of this behaviour. It scared me.
Ashton's eyes softened as he stuffed the device into his pocket, biting his lip tenderly. Then, he released a loud sigh.
''It's not you, Hazel. '' he stated, voice barely above a whisper. He gulped, running a hand through the mess of his hair. ''I'm tired. Is all.''
I knew he was lying. I saw it. He couldn't look me in the eyes, instead he kept his gaze fixated on his converse, hands fiddling with each other, which was a sign he wasn't speaking the truth. I'd know that, I've basically grew up with the boy.I've known him since kindergarten.
But when he stayed quiet, I decided not to push it. He'll came around. I know when he doesn't want to be pressured and this was the case.
So I smiled gently, extending my arms to envelope him in a hug. He gladly ran into my arms, snuggling his face in my neck. I caressed my hand through his soft hair, placing a kiss on his forehead. Ashton sniffed slightly, making me wonder if something bad happened. But I still decided to keep my mouth shut. When he wants to talk, he will.
''Can we go?'' he asked quietly in the crook of my neck, gaining a nod of my head.
''We can.'' I smiled as he pulled away. ''How about we have some spaghetti for lunch?''

I thanked God Luke was gone when we arrived back at my apartment. Marcia had done her job, leaving the place spotless. I told Ashton to make himself at home, though that was totally needless because this basically is his home.
